I laughed when Fein went himself with Soward open for a FG. I wasn't laughing after the 90th minute though.

If he can get a longer term deal with an NRL club I imagine we'd release him from that final year. I'd be reluctant about it though. He's the best hooker we've had at the club since... I can't even remember when... before Browny and Snoopy Collins. Plus, he's got the added bonus of being a topline halfback. Slots into the 7 and the side doesn't miss a beat. This is an advantage he has over the likes of King and Rein. We can cover his spot at hooker, sure, but his place in the halfback depth chart will remain a huge hole.

he's another jeremy smith..

great player, but getting on in years..

he can finish the last year of his contract here, but that will most likely be his last in the NRL as he would be 32 (or 33)..

or..

he can get released from the last year of his contract and go sign a 3 yr somewhere else, effectively extending his shelf life by 2 years..

it's a hard call, but sometimes it needs to be made..

FYI - i think he was one of the best buys that bennett brought here.. was v. happy when saw the news first advising of the transfer to us..

I'm with you the depth in the halves is pretty thin

Isn't king a halfback turned hooker? I'd like to see him stay too however. I have couple of issues with his play but he gets away with it and was an integral part of our 2010 premiership

- originally a five-eighth / lock who only started playing hooker a few years ago

How quickly you all forget. He laid on the Jeremy Smith try in the prelim last year. He murdered the roosters in the second half of the GF. In the games he hasn't played this year we have looked pedestrian around the ruck. We missed his defence against the dogs. He sparks a lot of the attack. How can you not care if he goes to Souths? Who cares how old he is; go off how well he plays. He is the same age as Cooper and we all see the value in him...Fien still has plenty to offer.

Fien is an extremely valuable asset to the team and a must for next season. As mentioned above, one of our best signings under Bennet, Best hooker at the club, and can fill halfback without the team missing a beat. I would etend his contract another 2 years if they have to as he will be well worth to keep as long as possible.

The bloke came back from a broken ankle to help us win the grand final. I wasn't willing to call the match until Fien crossed for the final try. He has plenty of G&D and his organisation around the ruck is obvious to anyone watches the game.

Fortunately I can't see him going anywhere in hurry. At least one more season beyond this would be beaut.
