Spain demolishing NZ

Pretty boring second half, Spain weren't really trying. Could have easily been 7 or 8 nil, being modest, and I'm just disappointed they didn't top the 6-0 we suffered against Brazil.

Argh, I remember that 6-0. The Ronaldo and Romario show.

Some of those Kiwis looked like stiff training dummies just standing there. Truely some awful football.

From all reports the Iraq/South Africa game was atrocious.

Yeah, I'm glad I didn't stay awake for that one. I was gonna try and do an all nighter but thought getting some sleep and an early morning for this game was a better idea. IQ'ed it, but will probably delete it.

hardly seems fair that we go through Asia and the kiwis have to play teams like Spain

The most annoying thing in the SA, Iraq game was the constant f*cking horns blowing. Sounded like a swarm of roided up mosquito's amplified.

It's just the Confed Cup, it has no bearing on their World Cup, as I'm sure you know.

Who is looking likely to be the 5th SA team at the moment? I doubt NZ could qualify against a Uruguay or Paraguay who're usually around that position.

i think we were always heading for a hiding in this game.

the more telling games are the ones VS South Africa & Iraq.

Iraq is probably the most important one for us... as the team we play in the play off will be Asian.

either way were at long odds to qualify... but thats expected when your an isolated country like NZ... im just bloody glad we dont have to play the SA team now...

Yes Lion Red is disgusting but are you saying that you don't believe that we can qualify for the world cup ?

Hey, let's be honest. You guys aren't the most talented team so what you need to do is think outside of the square for some motivational techniques, like we did with Aussie Guus. Now, if you employed the great Hegs to come in for some pre game prep I would be putting the house on. But alas I would imagine he is too busy wowing the idiots of Townsville to be available.

They will play off against the 5th place Asian team which itself will be a playoff between the two teams who came third in the groups. As it stands that would be Bahrain v Saudi Arabia. Bahrain are at home to Uzbekistan who sit 3 points behind and have to make up two goals as they are -4 and Bahrain are -3. But, group B is interesting with North Korea, Saudi Arabia on 11 points and Iran on 10 points with one game each to play. Iran are away to South Korea (already qualified) and Saudi Arabia are home to North Korea.

This is from Wiki;
On the next matchday (17 June):

  • Korea DPR will qualify for the World Cup if:
    • they defeat Saudi Arabia, OR
    • they draw Saudi Arabia AND Iran draws or loses to Korea Republic.
  • Korea DPR will earn a spot in the AFC Fifth Round play-off if:
    • they draw Saudi Arabia AND Iran defeats Korea Republic, OR
    • they lose to Saudi Arabia AND Iran loses to Korea Republic, OR
    • they lose to Saudi Arabia by a single goal AND Iran draws Korea Republic, but Korea DPR scores more goals in its game against Saudi Arabia than Iran scores in its game against Korea Republic (Korea DPR-Iran head to head tie breaker in favor of Iran if goal difference and total goals are tied), OR

  • Saudi Arabia will qualify for the World Cup if:
    • they defeat Korea DPR.
  • Saudi Arabia will earn a spot in the AFC Fifth Round play-off if:
    • they draw Korea DPR AND Iran draws or loses to Korea Republic, OR
    • they lose to Korea DPR AND Iran loses to Korea Republic

  • Iran will qualify for the World Cup if:
    • they defeat Korea Republic AND Saudi Arabia and Korea DPR draw.
  • Iran will earn a spot in the AFC Fifth Round play-off if:
    • they defeat Korea Republic AND Saudi Arabia defeats Korea DPR, OR
    • they defeat Korea Republic AND Korea DPR defeats Saudi Arabia, OR
    • they draw with Korea Republic AND Korea DPR defeats Saudi Arabia (goal difference), OR
    • they draw with Korea Republic AND:
      • Saudi Arabia defeats Korea DPR by 2 or more goals, OR
      • Saudi Arabia defeats Korea DPR by 1 goal AND Iran scores at least as many goals in its game against Korea Republic as Korea DPR does against Saudi Arabia

Spain would have put 8 on us if they wanted to and if the linesman didn't feel sorry for us. But anyway, I can't see us qualifying and I also feel that more NZFC players should be selected for such tournaments as this. For example, I would like to see someone like Jason Hayne from Youngheart Manawatu picked ahead of Jarrod Smith and a few more.

Yes Hegs deserves to be away from the wankers in Townsville. He's far too good to be wasting his talent up there. If we could get him into the camp then I do feel that we would increase our chances of qualifying. Instead we have to settle for Brian Turner.

the NZFC IS A JOKE!! the bloody Phoenix beat Waitakere something like 9-0 FFS

I was taking the piss about that. I thought you would have realised that. Saying Vicelich shouldn't be there is a joke itself as he is playing out of position. But I feel that players such as Hayne should be picked in the squad somewhere as Jarrod Smith is no good and Hayne wouldn't do any worse than him. These American players suck and a few NZFC players couldn't do any worse than them in an average tournament like this and Waitakere only lost in the final minutes to Adelaide United in the World Club Champs last year.

So basically what I'm trying to say is that these NZFC players such as Hayne, Pritchett, Coombes etc could at least be given a go ahead of these average American based players.

you do realise that the MLS is about 10 times better than the NZFC....

if Chad Coombes gets anywhere near the All Whites we in a hell of a lot of trouble... its even more ludicrous than the Vicelich/Rufer thing...it would be like NSW picking a bloke from Jim Beam cup for Origin 2...
