I agree Walsh needs to work on his defence. I turned to my mate during the game (who is an Eagles fan himself) and said, if they run at Walsh they will score the try. And what happened next? Scotty Prince ran at Walsh (who made a complete meal of the tackle) and put Sideshow Bob in to score through the overlap created. Brilliance from Prince, sure. But also shows that teams know where to run at us. Manly have a similar problem with Orford who falls off alot of tackles because his arms are so short.

Looks like Carmont is organizing Doogs in defence. They seemed to be communicating really well. And as long as Doogs is scoring tries off Mullen's kicking (which he has done twice in the past 2 weeks), then I am happy. Don't be too harsh on Mcmanus either, he may have let in a couple of tries down his flank. But over the past few weeks he has been reading the play like a champ, even so much as to know when he has to come out of the line to shut down an overlap play. He is a very effective one-on-one tackler.

All but one try was down McManus' side again. Yeah, I noticed. We lucked out last Monday, but the Titans appear smarter than them. McManus is the worst winger we've produced since Tony Herman. He didn't keep the kick-chase line when Rogers scored and he was the one that decided to fall in the Donelley from up high to around his ankles to allow the offload.

I know everyone seems to love him for some reason, but you've got to stop loving him when you realise he's possibly the stupidest player we've ever produced. Teams have more than noticed this now.

It was Mullen that caused the first try against us too, not Carmont. The guy didn't slide and he produced the overlap. Kids was great on the line, but MacDougall could've helped by diving on the guy rather than just grabbing his back.

Other things I noticed:

Tolar and Woolnough's offload since Smith came has been outstanding. We'd have been lucky to have had that much second phase play all season last year as we had last night.

MacDougall looks good when he runs straight. Looks sh*t running sideways.

The defence holds when the Titans ball spreads to Carmont's side... all but once anyway. In fact, the defence in the first half was top notch, when they went the other way in the second half we folded time after time.

Corey's worst game in first grade. Another off-season in the gym and he'd score that try. Snowden is big and strong, but he's slow. I hope he's over his leg injuries mentally.

I've got my heart in my throat every time Kurt goes for a one-on-one. One bad shot and the off-season surgery planned will come a lot sooner.

Buderus might as well not even bother talking to refs if they're not going to listen.

So all the times McManus has disolved a 3-on-1 situation is stupid is it? There has been countless times McManus has read the play and been able to shutdown an overlap on the first pass. He has also pulled off some great one-on-one ball-and-all tackles that not only slows the play but gives our cover defense time as well.

Put last night down to a brilliant halfback (Prince) who knows how to suck defenders out of the line so he can put a runner through. Not McManus' best game, no, but at least he offers something to the team every week. To go around slamming him for a couple of bad reads is abit unfair.

Wasn't Mamanus best game but Carmont inside didn't help. He is a passsenger in attack and defence.

I agree on Patto, was brushed off quite a few times and will need some work in the gym to build strength.

Tighe is inside McManus. Not Carmont.

Put Uate in the side, as soon as he's back, he's got more creativity in his pinkie than Michael Kelso ever will. He can also let in 4 or 5 trys a night like him if he has too. At least we'll get some excitement in a winger with the ball for a change.

DMC, did McManus murder your mother or something? He's easily been our best outside back this year, and will only get better as his career goes on. Yes he's let in some tries, but so has every other winger in the comp - nobodies perfect. IMO he's had an outstanding debut season so far.

Lol so much for Joeys magic teaching ways to teach him how to defend :D

Ah well, he will work on it and I'm sure it will be fixed up before the finals... ;-)

You are hereby marked!

I'm happy with my assessment on the guy. He's got very little. No passing game, can't catch a bomb (3 drops v the Roosters alone), can't read an attacking line, his kick chase i worthless, over-runs his centre, can't move inside, no flair at all, not particularly pacey and can't tackle worth a sh*t. He's only ever looked half decent when Tighe puts him over, but even then he's not doing anything a million others could.

As the season progresses he will become more and more of a liability when teams target him. He's lucked out on being noticed only because of Polglase's ordinary showings, but he's doing nothing for us out there.

You're an idiot and that statement shows just how much. Tighe has NEVER put McManus over. Period! He doesn't even pass the ball out that far.

That is a rather harsh judgement of McManus. I was very critical at the start of the season of McManus but he has really impressed me thus far. Sure he isn't an explosive or live-wire winger but he gets the job done. When given his chance at the line he rarely fails. Not only that, but his defensive reads are sencond to none. There has been countless times this year when there has been a two or three man overlap and McManus has rushed out and shut the plays down. Not to mention he is strong bringing the ball back from kick returns and his dumm-half darts are valuable when the forwards are getting back onside from kicks. He isn't a Jarrod Hayne or a Israel Folau, but he gets the job for us and he has been one of the few outside backs for the club who has actually be consistent.

So tell us, what'd he do? Rape your wife? Kill your first-born? He must have done something particularly heinous to garner this level of hate when he has been no-where near as bad as you make him out to be.

Jeebus H. Christ.

One of out gutsiest performances and we are putting the boot in everywhere.

Snowden had a good game. Considering we had around 15% possession at the 20 minute mark his metres would have been down. So the stats are going to be skewed.

McManus is a very solid winger. Why is he in the team?? Smith is scared of Uate's brain explosions. There is also the rumour that we are pushing the limits of the 2nd tier cap.

Walsh. Reading his own hype?? He is on the back and front page of the paper this week, and all they are talking about is him needing to fix his defence.... jeez I hope he doesnt read that press. He knows he is 79kg, he knows that he will be targeted by other teams. At least the kid tries to tackle, he may not always effect them, but there are plenty of halves in the game that hide and are the second man in on a tackle. The kid will improve.

On the positive side of things, Carmont is defending well and Kurt had a great game in trying circumstances.

I am hoping we will see Franze in the team this week if McDougall is again ruled out.

One more thing... Pato not scoring that try was more down to technique than anything.

If he had the ball in his right arm he would have been able to fend Rogers and get enough seperation to put the ball down.

Chalk it up to experience, I am sure he will do much better if he gets in the situation again.

I don't like giving much credit for trying to tackle. Carmont 'tried' for 3 years.

Carmont wasnt 20 years old and 70kg.

He will learn to tackle or he will not survive. It is that simple. Labelling him as useless after the amount of games he has played is very short sighted.

The reason Walsh didn't move up to the seniors at the same time as Mullen is because he was too small - and he has put on maybe 5kg in the last two years.
He seriously needs to find a way to put on 10kg of muscle before the start of next season.
Chris Tyrie did it in an off season - no reason Walsh can't.

If you think it is that simple no tries would ever be scored and we wouldnt track missed tackles as they would never happen.

The guy isnt in the team for his tackling ability. But it is something that he is aware of and knows it is not up to standard after a handful of games.
