i would love to see what they would do if 7 year olds were throwing a Steeden around on that ground. It would cause an uproar, and can only harm the cause of the AFL gaining prescious ground in western sydney.
this sort of arrogance from the AFL is making my blood boil, and only making me not want to watch a game of theirs even more

Are these council owned grounds? As disgraceful as it seems already, you just can't go and make ratepayer/community owned grounds available for just one activity, surely?

Pffft. If there's no problem with physically accessing these grounds (ie, they're not under lock & key), I'd be organising defiance of these signs en masse. WTF are they gonna do - fine people for playing touch?

It's simple, go and play any sport (that does not endanger others or destroys the facilities) you want there. And if the council doesn't like it vote the pricks out.

This is why viccykicky will fail miserably in western Sydney, the people there won't be told what to do by arrogant fools who think money is the be all and end all.

None around here, yet.
I did see a "play AFL" sign on a fence yesterday.
I think they are using the megabucks from their TV rights to buy influence. That will turn around when league gets a big payout and fumbleball starts losing money in western Sydney.

It works because the AFL know how local councils work. You splash the cash, they're on their knees in a flash.

How much cash though?

$100,000 according to the article...

And that gets you exclusive use?

Seems like this particular Council is a cheap whore...

Make sure you have a screwdriver in your car so you can remove a sign like this anytime you see one.

It's completely absurd.

Every RL person worth anything should make it their duty to go to this ground and play as much RL there, or touch or whatever, as possible.

Absolutely unbelievable.

It's war if I've ever seen it.

So much for everybody getting along nicely.

Could you imagine if rugby league tried this in Victoria?

The reason Gould wasn't interested in what Gallop had to say at the CEO's conference is because he knows the IC is just around the corner. This is when you'll see him go hard on the AFL issue - with the people that can actually make a difference.
