Wtf is Frankie Dettori doing on Almandin?

I can't back him now.

The field is so shit that I think it's time for an overseas horse to win without having had a run down under.

Agreed, I always back a horse that has had a run before the cup.

This might be the year I change that philosophy.

Here's your choices....

Tiberian - chance, has won over 2400m + in the last six months
Max Dynamite (not this preparation) - won't win, too old and failed to run a place at least twice over 3200m +
US Army Ranger - won't win, hasn't won over 2400m + in the last six months
Nakeeta - won't win, failed to run a place at least twice over 3200m +
Thomas Hobson - won't win, too old and failed to run a place at least twice over 3200m +
Rekindling - won't win, hasn't won over 2400m + in the last six months
Red Cardinal - chance, has won over 2400m + in the last six months

Wall of Fire will win. Herbert power form is legit
Wall of Fire came second to Lord Fandango by a length.

I don't feel the Herbert Power is a good indicator. Prince of Penzance came 8th in the 2015 HP by 7.7 lengths and won the Cup that year. In 2014, Protectionist came 4th losing to Big Memory by a length - probably the best indicator in recent times.

Rogan Josh was the last to do the Herbert Power/Melbourne Cup double in 1999.

Arwon previously in 1978.

Only about six horses have ever done it.
