It seems pretty bad to me that anybody got killed, cricketers or not.

And it seems fairly obvious to me that Meth was expressing relief that the cricketers survived, thus there were less tragic deaths than there would have been if they had not. It's tragic that anyone was killed...point is that there is some consolation that it wasn't worse

Whatever ... guess I read it differently.

9/11 changed the world as we knew it, After todays incident the cricketing world will never be the same again. No country will ever tour Pakistan again. It may well be the begiining of the end of cricket in that country.

Cricket is not that strong a world sport to lose one of its major countries.

As it was Australia were playing a One Day Series against Pakistan in the UAE cuz Australia didn't feel safe playing in Pakistan.

We can only guess what the ramifications of this will be

Sad to see this all happened outside the ground where Sri Lanka had their greatest achievement.

Sad way to see our greatest ever captain finish his captaincy career as well.

It's just impossible to fathom what the terrorist aresholes think they can gain from this.

It'll be interesting to see how the ICC responds as it is potentially a massive blow to world cricket.

So it seems pretty good to me that somebody who the terrorists intended to get killed didn't, cricketers or not.

Of course it is not good that anybody was killed; but it is great that none of the cricketers were killed- not because they are cricketers, but because they were a busload of innocent people in harms way

Come on guys, no need to be politically correct here. The police and security people do their jobs knowing that they are risking their lives to protect others. Even in wars, soldiers get killed, which is sad, but it`s even worse when civilians are killed. These policemen and security guards sacrificed their lives, and if they could tell us, they would probably be very proud of what they did, because they didn`t let civilians get killed. That`s part of their job, willingly risking their lives to protect innocent civilians. It is very sad that they had to give their lives, but it was not in vain, because they managed to save the lives of the ones they were protecting.

Imran Khan was on Enough Rope with Andrew Denton ages ago.

He was asked whether terrorists would target cricketers and said this:

ANDREW DENTON: The decision of the Australian Cricket Team not to tour in Pakistan, which is now listed as one of the most dangerous countries in the world – do you understand that?

IMRAN KHAN: I can understand that but having said that I also know that cricketers would never be under any threat from terrorists. Reason is that the terrorists rely on support from the masses because that’s where they get their recruits and cricket is a game which is so loved and there’s such passion in Pakistan, that the terrorists know that if a cricket match is bombed, they’ve had it. I mean the public will just turn against them.

I wonder how Geoff Lawson is feeling today? He was pretty confident there we no concerns either and wanted Australia to tour there everytime someone stuck a microphone under his mouth

next we'll be watching the pakistani "government" come out and try to deny that those who shot at the bus had anything to do with pakistan.

no country should ever tour there again. but in saying that its a big shame for pakistani cricket especially if they were to be stripped of test playing status. they have produced some of crickets most talented players in the last 20 years.

No matter how noble, the fact that they 'died on the job' doesn't make it any less tragic

Typical these days for geniuss with nothing better to do than to try and grab headlines. It seems after sept 11, its not enough to simply blow sh*t up anymore. You now have to have a "Dire Hard" plot to go along with it.

I really hope that the ICB, and pakistan apologises to australia for the f**ken sh*t we copped for not touring pakistan. It would seem that perhaps listening to intelligence, and being a little bit careful wasnt so bad after all.

Its not like this is out of the blue either, taliban militants in the nth rampaged through a city a few weeks back, butchering people, basically taking over the town. Then there were the bombay attacks a few months back.

Sadly, I believe this throws all sub continent cricket into doubt as well.

Apart from the loss of life, I tend to feel sorry for the people of Pakistan, who are genuinely great people. What is happening in their country right now is terrible and I hope that Australia does everything it can to help them alleviate this disgraceful situation.

Just in case the Sri Lankan goverment arent up to speed yet:

2002 CANCELLED The Kiwis agree to a tour - but on the morning of the second Test, a bomb explodes outside the team hotel in Karachi, killing 11 people. The team immediately returns home.

2002 RELOCATED Australia refuse to tour because of safety concerns and the series is moved to Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates.

2003 CANCELLED South Africa cancel a tour of Pakistan following another bombing in Karachi.

2005 England consider returning home after a bomb is detonated opposite a Karachi hotel they were booked to stay later in their tour. The team decides to stay and plays three Tests and five one-dayers.

2008 POSTPONED Australia refuse to tour in March, claiming to have knowledge of a direct threat to players from a terrorist organisation. Australia decide to postpone their tour until 2009.

2008 POSTPONED The Champions Trophy one-day tournament is postponed after Australia, South Africa, England and New Zealand express serious concerns about the safety of their players. The competition has been pencilled in for October next year, although some officials believe the series can not go ahead in the country.

Im wondering why the Sri Lankans were suprised someone fired a rocket launcher at them.
