St George pathway needs change.

I went down to the Southern Corridor Development Gala Day which I saw advertised on the Dragons website and I cannot believe I am saying this but St George were beating and being competitive against our counterparts in Group 7 and Illawarra in addition to a NSWRL development team in both the girls and the boys.

Some strong, positive signs coming through so whoever is running those teams and that program are doing a really good job as traditionally St George get smashed by them in whatever they play in.

The NSWRL guy in the video said that there were boys 16s teams, but that didn't happen or I was late. I think if we continue this, the next couple of years will be a really good period for St George as they lead into Matts and Ball. The more local talent we can produce the better.
The Development Squads you saw are run 100% by the St.George Junior Rugby League. A group of local volunteer coaches & trainers worked for 3 months with only local kids. A great result from a very dedicated group.

Wow, great effort to all involved, if volunteers can do programs like these focusing on local kids, that makes an immense difference to the quality of juniors coming through the pathways. Hopefully we are investing in this for the long run as the signs are really promising. We need to make sure these volunteers don't give it away as I'm sure collectively their knowledge and dedication is larger than anywhere else.

Great article on today’s Herald by Webb about Penriths growth and particularly their pathways . Some great strategies are
* look at their 18 year olds and ask the main NRL coaching staff what they would like these players to be or look like at 21
* You don’t see for example any of their Jersy Flagg players overweight
*get journeyman for sure but build a team of locally produced players underneath them and the plan is to get these two lines to meet.
* Pathways is about coaching.
* they align with junior coaches & get involved with training, selection, recruitment.the main club has total control.

im sure we do SOME of these things or will under Flanno but the biggest flaw for us is what we inherit when we get some of these players. Far from ready for N RL and have suffered under incompetent coaching through their careers and lack some basic skills and football intelligence.
Agree DP, but we didnt have to wait until now to realise what Penrith are doing, that template has been in place for years, hence why they are so strong across all grades. Yes correct with us, the coaching of our sides has been very poor, self explains the standard we get when the cup players make it to NRL level, no tackling skills especially. Lets bring on the right people to address this, hope we have finally learnt our lesson but we shall see.

Coffs Dragon Quote "Ian Millward is still Pathways Director & until he’s removed, don’t expect miracles.
That bloke along with Haran need to follow the pathway right out the door" ........
Yep they need to follow the Yellow Brick Road right out of the joint .......

We have our own 'swamp' at the Dragons and Haran, Millward, Doust, Craig Young and many more make up this swamp.

Waive goodbye to these bludgers and we will begin the renewal.

Too true. Drain the swamp now.
I can assure you that most listed are desperately working behind the scene’s trying to save themselves. (I don’t know about Harlan, but the others definitely are)
I can’t go into detail but Flanno is furiously trying to shine a light on the imposters.

This sort of puzzles me in some way.

Keebra Park High School wanted the Titans to sign an exclusive deal with them which meant that partnerships with other schools on the Gold Coast would have had to be ended. Keebra Park High have produced many great players in the Gold Coast and of course by the Titans not agreeing to agree to the Schools wish for exclusivity, that club has now lost that school to the Rabbitohs.

Now if the Rabbitohs have agreed to some 'exclusivity', what about the schools in the Redfern region, how are they feeling?

Doesn’t mean too much really this deal. Players are signed with clubs before they get to school anyway I thought

NRL 2023: How the rebuild of Canterbury’s junior pathways will return the Bulldogs to its glory days

Hopefully Shane Millard and Kyle Flanagan have experienced a fair bit of what has been going on with the Dogs junior pathways, having been at the club, and use that experience to better the Dragons.

Our juniors are the future. I am sure that Shane Flanagan will ensure that the right people are employed to bring about a much improved pathways system and get the youngsters playing the game with determination and a will to win for progression into the top grades.

So why is this the case? Surely the club should be sticking it to the NRL to subsidies the development of players we bring though. What is happening at Penrith, Parramatta, Brisbane and Townsville? Surely they aren't using volunteers to develop and run their youngsters?

I am genuinely surprised that you think the NRL would stump up any money for individual clubs development costs.

They don’t look after anyone else but the top end of town players & providing identical grants to each club. They also resist every effort made to increase salary cap concessions to clubs that invest in developing players.

When the Dolphins were admitted they had to commit to spending $1M to grass roots & another separate $1M to dedicated female rugby league.

Seeing a trend here?
