OK, he's going off to play for Kabul, in the Afghanistan Premier comp.

I hear he is being paid 14 million Roubles a season (coz he's being sponsored
by a Russian Mafia boss).

And (and this is the biggie), he's about to come out of the closet

Stacey's Warriors Career Over Soon?
The Truth About Jones' Future
11/04/2005
It looks like Stacey Jones' league career with the Warriors will be over at the end of the current season, if not earlier.

Speculation has sparked up again over Jones' future, the rumour mill suggesting he will be released from his 2006 contract.

He is most likely to head to the UK Superleague.

Former Kiwis captain Hugh McGahan understands Stacey Jones will leave, something he does not entirely agree with.

McGahan says after all the accolades Jones has been given, and being a foundation member of the team, he is now being pushed out and let out of his contract.

He says a statement released by the Warriors on Sunday is a pre-emptive move before Stacey Jones leaves during the current season, or at the end of the year.

I knew it was going to happen, I just didn't want to know.

I really hope he sees out the season.

If he going ...

Good luck to him. He is a Warrior's icon. I wish him and his family all of the best.
I hope that he makes some big francs/pounds and that his family enjoy the lifestyle change.
When he does come back to NZ (ASSUMING HE GOES) The warriors should offer him soem type of job - trainer, coaching, admin, whatever.

1, If handled correctly this could be a PR coup - i.e. - Stacey has been a great servant we are sorry to see him go, we wish him all the best, we have named a stand after him or erected a statue in his honour , he will come back to be involved with the club

2, or a PR NIGHTMARE i.e. - our only icon player has been shafted by management or a has been Australian player much in the same way that Ali and Vinnie were let go ...

I'd perfer point # 1.

If he leaves I atleast hope he goes to the new French based ESL club entering the comp next year, I would like to think he is leaving to help start a new club franchise and promoting Rugby League in a new country.
