Looks like the majority of games at Kogarah and Wollongong will probably be for a short while. No doubt , we will get pressure from the NRL to play our games at these new stadiums once they are ready.

We are the NRLs Bitch after all and we will be used to show acceptance of the multi billion by the NSW gov.t.

Its going show what a great white elephant we have built when regular NRL games are played at these grounds and the number of people attending the games less than we currently have.

Does the NRL not have anyone with a ounce of commercial intelligence?

I am actually super excited for the new stadiums, outside of talking about Dragons. Allianz and ANZ are garbage stadiums and we need better if we want to remain the league capital of Australia.

That SCG grand final is going to be a horrible watching experience.

It really should have just gone to Brisbane for one year. But the NSW government was too scared and secured it here for 25 years instead.

Nah if Brisbane got a taste, we wouldnt get it back. f**k EM
A couple of things

NSW has secured the grand final via a 25 year contract already, so one year in Brisbane wouldn't have hurt

Also, Brisbane and their crowds (and currently superior stadium) have shown they deserve to host at least one imo. Especially with NRL's goal of growing the game.

Maybe, but if we had one team in Sydney then the original Olympic stadium of 110000 wouldnt be enough, Brisbane hasnt shown anything to be honest...throw a few more teams in that city and crowds would be less per game.

Dragons welcome Sydney stadia investment

The Dragons have welcomed today's announcement by the New South Wales Government regarding their significant investment in securing world class facilities for NRL fans under a new stadium program.

The program will see new stadia built at Sydney Olympic Park and Moore Park as well as the new Western Sydney stadium at Parramatta which is currently under construction.

"This is a great outcome for Dragons members and fans, and for the game of rugby league in this state," Dragons Chief Executive Officer Peter Doust said.

"Once the construction program is complete our members and partners will have access to a network of world class stadia and facilities in the form of purpose-built rectangular venues that will bring Dragons supporters closer to the action than ever before.

The decision by the NSW Government in regards to Sydney stadia will have no impact on the Dragons' 2018 home game schedule.

"Our Anzac Day home game to be played at Allianz Stadium in April will not be impacted ahead of the venue redevelopment works commencing at the end of the season," Doust confirmed.

"We will then work with the NRL, the SCG Trust and the Roosters on the most appropriate venue to host the Anzac Day games for the period while Allianz Stadium is being rebuilt.

The NSW Government's decision also reaffirms the Dragons' decision to play an additional home game at traditional venues WIN Stadium and Jubilee Oval in 2018, and supports the club's partnership with Mudgee for the next two seasons.

"Now that we have certainty on timelines for stadia redevelopment we can move forward and consider the best venue model for the Dragons in 2019 and beyond," Doust said.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said the NRL would now commit to keeping the Telstra Premiership grand final in Sydney for the next 25 years – although one grand final is likely to be staged at the Sydney Cricket Ground while ANZ and Allianz Stadiums are under construction.

The NRL has also signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with the NSW Government pledging to keep the grand final in Sydney as long as the timeline for construction of the new stadia is met.

That Moore Park stadium design looks really good.

I look forward to seeing it decked out in Dragons colours during an ANZAC game

The two stadia are a waste of money. The Olympic stadium will fall from 110,000 to 75,000 capacity over 20 years(1999-2018). Alliance is never filled now and it hardly ever rains. Homebush is a white elephant. Suburban grounds are the way to go.
Selfishly it’s great Sydney is getting these new venues but I am sure the money could have been spent elsewhere - hospitals, schools, aged care, mental health, gambling to name a few.

Best stadium in Oz to watch league. Great atmosphere if you can handle sitting with all the imbreds!!

I think the problem with Queensland is that the government pledged their desire but none of their money.

Only if you want to keep Rugby league small and a suburban sport.

New big stadiums are the future.

Prefacing this post with the fact I've been a Foundation Gold Member of Allianz Stadium since 1988 (ergo, vested interests), I initially welcomed the news that the venue would be rebuilt with a great deal of scepticism. Those fears have now materialised with the announcement that the new ground will hold the exact, same previous capacity.

WTF? Can someone explain the 'logic' being applied here? It doesn't make ANY sense. I thought the SCG Trust harboured a desire to recoup at least a few of the plethora of major sporting fixtures it has lost since 1999.

Apparently not.

As for ANZ Stadium, the NSW Government's stupidity here is best illustrated by the fact the venue is less than 20-years old.

It doesn't need a rebuilt, rather it needs to be demolished.

I don't think they are. Sydney clubs are hurting now because tribalism is slowly being bred out of the game. The biggest issue with suburban grounds is they aren't up to standard and the infrastructure around them are terrible. The game needs to do more for its fans but sadly the NRL and the clubs don't have the vision to do that. It's easier for them to take the TV money and sit on their hands.
