Yesterday it was announced that Performance Co-ordinator Jeremy Hickmans would be following Wayne to the Saints. Being a member of Bennett's personal staff, not the Broncos, this was apparently always the likely scenario and as a result Brisbane have already found not a only a suitbale replacement, but a better one.

Dean Benton is back.

His programs are largely still in place under Hickmans, and it was Benton who oversaw the start of our transformation in 2006.

Michael DeVere will also join the staff, his role not yet known.

These two are in addition to Shane Webcke and Allan Langer as new appointments to Henjak's staff which, as described after Hickmans' announcment yesterday, will be one of the largest and most specialised football departments ever assembled in the NRL.

Things going quite well so far.

Broncos Name New Coaching Staff

Thu 01.5.2008 - Trad McLean

THE WOW Brisbane Broncos have assembled a crack staff to support new head coach Ivan Henjak from the 2009 season onwards.

In a collection of rugby league minds that will balance the club’s culture with the cutting edge of modern sport, former Bronco greats and sports professionals of the highest order have been secured.

Dean Benton, who revolutionised the way the Broncos trained as he oversaw the team’s athletic endeavours during the club’s march to the 2006 premiership, will return to Brisbane as Performance Director.

Benton rejoins the Broncos after a stint with English rugby union club Leceister.

Backing up Benton’s expertise will be Andrew Croll and the already full-time strength coach Dan Baker and sports scientist Tim Gabbett.

Croll becomes the Athletic Performance Coach after excelling in his role as the Broncos’ elite player development strength and conditioning coach.

In a new structure, a host of brilliant former rugby league players will be Henjak’s right-hand men.

Allan Langer, Shane Webcke, Paul Green and Peter Ryan will all become full-time assistant coaches in specialist roles.

All four have played for the club and have held pivotal roles on the Broncos’ staff in recent years.

Broncos’ chief executive Bruno Cullen said he was looking forward to the new staff beginning their work in November.

“We are very pleased with the team we have put together,” he said.

“The club has been working on this for the past few weeks with the help of our new head coach Ivan Henjak.

“I am very confident we have assembled a highly-credentialed team to take us forward into a new period for the Broncos.”

Hopefully Alfie instills some of his visions of how to play the game into the broncos backline. Quick spread wide after every turnover. When was the last time we saw an expansive movement near a team's own try line in the NRL...

If Michael Devere's career is anything to go by, he'll be a great asset. Professional, consistant, not the greatest talent in the world, but made the most of what he had.
