State Of Origin 2016

Meant to come into effect by the end of this month.

Better not be between rounds 25 and 26 with the Eels needing a win to make the finals!

Or, probably more likely, no chance of making it but nonetheless fired up to prove a point. There'd be nothing worse than having 17 angry Eels heading over the ditch.

Hopefully by that stage we're either comfortably in the finals or comfortably out of them.

To be honest I'm hoping Qld wrap it up tonight. The third game will be an anti-climax and we can get straight back into the NRL.

Oh, and if the Warriors immediately start losing again then so be it. We'll know where we truly stand in the greater scheme of things.

100%. I can't wait for Origin to end to see where this side actually stands. At the moment we wouldn't have a f**king clue. Once it's all done and dusted, we can actually see whether our coach is any good, whether guys in form over the last 3 weeks are any good/are tough in big moments/v big teams, or whether basically every win we've had this year involves a caveat as to why we beat them - not we were on an even playing field and we had more heart/skill.

And if it's 'we're actually shit and once again Origin masked it' then so be it. Then we can dispense with the coach, the dead wood players and get to building something properly.

I don't see any ambiguity about where we stand at the moment - two of the last 3 weeks have been the bottom two teams, we played Brisbane after one Origin and Cronulla this week - the wins don't come with asterisks, but to me we've shown nothing - one good game against a Brisbane team that was a shadow of itself... we have a dream draw for the rest of the season...

The Warriors are always dangerous when they're confident, but I am not convinced there's any reason to be at the moment

Let's not even dare kid ourselves. We are shit and this is just the standard origin run as happens every year. There is exactly zero evidence that we are better than shit, that our coach has a clue, and that our players are good n tough against the better teams. Zero, nada, not a bean.

I would be mighty surprised and pleased if I were wrong.

More direct and succinct than me...

But how have we benefited from Origin this year?

ok, the Roosters were missing Fergusson. Cordner and Guerra were crook any way, so probably wouldn't have played. We were without Lillyman.

Can't remember who we played in the lead up to Origin 1, but I don't remember them being particularly depleted.

It seems that the Origin period isn't as favourable to us as it used to be....but I give you, we are bizarrely consistent at launching into some form around this time of year.

Short memory Meth my man...after Origin 1 we played the Broncos (pre Origin 1 we had a bye). Broncos had to travel the day after Origin 1 for a game on Saturday night. Yes Bull did but he didn't play Origin. Four Broncos backed up. And Matt Gillett/Corey Oates were rested/injured in Origin. Not one Bronco ran for 100m. In fact none ran for more than 82m (two bench players 80+). Is that a Broncos-esque stat? I don't think so. We were kissed on the c**k big time by that draw.

I don't buy into the fact the Roosters has anything to do with it. Guerra has sucked at club level this year and Cordner as you say is injured. Ferguson wouldn't have made a difference.

And I don't think the Sharks will be severely affected this weekend, not one bit. Yes Gallen may not back up and tends to completely not give a f**k about the Sharks around Origin time..but they're now on top and NSW may lose the series tonight so he might come out fired up. Then there's only two other Origin players (Maloney and Fifita), they don't have to travel, Wade Graham isn't suspended for the club game and will be very fired up and the rest of the team had a bye last week so will be fresh.

Yup, I think it is fair to say if we beat the sharks in Sydney this weekend then I will start to believe. Tis the litmus test.

Wait...I know there are a few variables....but you're essentially saying that the Broncos lost to us because they had a few backing up, but you don't expect the Sharks to be affected by a few players (Gallen, Maloney, Fifita AND Bird) backing up.

As for the travel factor, I don't like it when blokes try to use our travel schedule as an excuse...but I won't be crying any tears for Brisbane.

Yup. Broncos had 6. Sharks have 4 (wasn't aware of Bird. Is he bench utility? Walker played 10 mins in the opening game. Hardly bone shattering). Two didn't play for the Broncs, I expect all 4 to play although Gallen may not. Sharks had the bye last week (ie 13 of their team very well rested), Broncos didn't before us. Broncos had a 3 hr flight to Auckland and changing time zones. Brisbane to Sydney is half that without the 2 hour time zone change. Broncos had lost two in a row, Sharks haven't lost since round 3 and are absolutely flying with momentum (I don't buy an inch into due a loss crap).

I think it's chalk and cheese unless injuries occur tonight.

Birds on the bench- Walker starting at centre. Not sure how many minutes he is playing.

I guess I'd rather have players backing up then players unavailable...these blokes don't tend to lose much steam backing up. Look at Smith and Cronk after Origin 1- freakish performances.

Papalii and Myles backed up on Friday night in Canberra.

Papalii played for an hour. 22 tackles. 100+ m. 2 linebreaks

Myles about the same, without the line breaks.

The Cowboys in Townsville in Saturday night- O'Neill went well. Thurston, as you'd expect. Scott 186 m. Tamou 121 m

tbh, I don't think backing up means shit

Maloney having a shocker. Just passed the ball out over the sideline with two minutes before half-time.

He's knocked-on at another time too, which killed an attack and momentum.
