I'm sure R&S was implying that there's a glaring double standard with what happens in a club game and what happens in Origin.

Yeah - the glorification of 'Origin plays' and the fact that you can basically shoot a bloke in a Maroon or Blue jersey, and given the level of passion it can be forgiven and shouldn't impinge on their club representation.

I am growing to hate Origin (as a NZer, I understand I wouldn't if I was from NSW or QLD). It absolute cannibalises the core product. I genuinely don't care any more who wins, given 10 of the last 11 series have gone one way, and I only tend to think about how damaging it is to the NRL and the mid-season period.

There was an argument years ago to reduce it to one game per year. I think the horse may have bolted on that one.

Another argument was to only play the third game 'if required'. Meaning it'd be canned this year.

Sure- but if the case study is comparing 2 cases which happened so far apart that the tackler and the tackled player are now playing on the same team (for the second year), then we have a problem, don't we?

Problem is the powers controlling the game are not the NRL but Channel 9. Who want the rating bonanza that origin seems to remain.
As it is the only mid week major sporting event.

C'mon Bull. Hit hard, hit early, win the wrestle and come home unscathed. We have more important things in store for you...

Myles started, Lillyman off the bench.

I'm picking NSW to win, and win comfortably next year - if they do things right.

Firstly, they've organically got rid of their shithouse captain. He might be 'a warhorse, warrior' whatever you want to call him, but making 200m a game and hating QLDers isn't enough to be a captain. He's a poor leader. Selfish, hot headed, unintelligent, blames refs/external uncontrollables...he's lost what, 6/7 of the last 8 series'? Who survives with that sort of horrible record?

Hopefully Daley has learned his lesson from blaming refs as well, which only serves to tell his side they're victims and losing has nothing to do with their deficiencies.

And they should go with a spine of Tedesco/Reynolds A/Maloney/Peats, and dominate.

A perenial loser. His enthusiasm in the face of so many defeats was inspirational, then he ended up just getting in the way. Should have made 2014 his farewell.

haters gonna hate - Gallen is a beast, he always warranted a place in the team, and I'm not sure there have been any better options for captain

Yeah Gallen was fine and played a top role for NSW, certainly imo has been a far better player at that level than Thaiday and Parker who get raved about

Always been a big origin fan but the buildup, style of game and time it's on have gotten to me this year. Grew up watching low scorers that still had huge hits, ball movement and knuckle. These days it's too predictable and lacking the physicality

I do think NSW could have a big run coming, in terms of the age of this current Qld team and what is coming through for both teams. Qld have Oates, Milford, Napa, Holmes etc but I don't think they compare to a group including Tedesco, Bird, Cartwright, Frizzell, Moylan, Trbojovic brothers etc. add how young the rotation of Woods, Klemmer and Fifita are and good times are ahead

Beaver, even living on AEST it gets late at the end of the game, especially cause it's a week night.

I hope you're right about the resurgence in fortunes for NSW. That's when Origin was at its best, when an underdog Qld outfit knocked over a big shot NSW side.

The whole concept needs that, as apparently viewers are switching off.

ps, have an awesome day today...until 7.30 pm NZ Time.

Lol mate it has the potential to be a rough night. My fiancé is from Wellington so if the Hurricanes beat the Crusaders tonight then the Warriors get up I'm in for a long night ! However it is a fairly somber start to the day so the sport pales in comparison a bit, hoping to catch a bit of club league this afternoon as well
