i have been following the kennedy saga for some days now and i am amazed that so many people say he should be allowed to play for whichever state he wishes. mark gaznier for one in todays tele. i am of the understanding that a player can be selected to play for the state where he played his first senior game of rugby league. if this is correct what the hell is all the fuss, if kennedy played his first senior game in nsw then he must not be selected by qld. why doesn't the useless arl do something to stop this crap happening?#-o
The main problem is still to do with Greg Inglis, he played at the age of 16 (classes as senior football) for John Hunter Sports High, Macksville and Norths Brisbane in the same year. So the Qlders got to him first and promised him the world if he told the ARL he wanted to play for Qld not NSW and Qld picked in a emerging squad first claiming him. Under the Rules he should have been NSW but we said he wanted to play only for Qld. Don't know what deal he did with the devil but he demanded to be a Qlder.
There is a photo in the local Pub in Macksville of his head superimposed over a NSW players head so it looks like him in the blues strip and i was told he took exception to the photo and demanded they take it down.
For what it's worth i wouldn't want him playing for NSW.
The biggest crock is when Qld had Adrian Lam playing halfback and captain of PNG. Tonie Carroll and Craig Smith playing for NZ.
The rules were relaxed a little during the Super League war because the majority of Qld's current Origin team signed with Super League. The ARL needs to have the balls to say that from 2012 the rules have changed and it's what ever junior club you played at if it's in NSW you can only play for them, if it's in Victoria then sorry you miss out. So any new player selected from 2012 onwards has to go by that rule.
