It's obvious that the series needs a NSW upset tomorrow night in Brisbane, which sets it up nicely for the second game.

The build-up is quieter this year, probably because both camps took to training in out of the way locations, and there's been no off-field incidents.

The last few years though, after the hype and the kick off, it all seems an anti-climax.

I also noticed that the hype seems downplayed a bit this season, which is good. The SOO hype makes me want to punch things. Will watch of course, and hope for a NSW upset. Hopefully Cameron Smith and/or Slater get squashed by someone. Not sure why I loathe those two so much, probably cause they are so damn good.

Not sure about Qld but NSW got rid of the traditional bonding session and camp at Coogee Bay Hotel. Being upstate in Coffs, where people don't give too much of a damn about celebrities, can only help their cause this year.

As far as hype goes, we'll still get nauseating coverage from Nine, peaking with Gus' sermon from under the goalposts.

Then it's kick off, and the whole bar goes flat. The whole concept of Origin has been surviving on its 30+ years of history lately.

Queensland to win, only cause I need this result to bring in my 5 leg multi.

This reminds me of an argument I once had with a workmate. He was so fired up that Brisbane should upset Melbourne in that year's GF I said 'what connection do you have with the Broncos, have you lived up there? (he was originally from Malaysia).

He replied "No, I've just got $100 on them."

State of Origin has brain washed the minds of NZ rugby league fans to the point where an international has far less in thread interest than two groups of Australians playing a manufactured league game.

As a NSW fan I back them.

As a New Zealander I hope Queensland smash NSW for the next thousand years to make that 'World series' of rugby league irrelevant.

Melbournes campaign looks shakey.

No Cronk, Smith hobbling ( might bounce back like Johnson ) SLater banged up too.

If this keeps up the rate of attrition, the points table could be in for some movement.

Tough game.
Thurston terrible game.
Hayne some great moments.
Cooper broken arm big loss for Qld.
Inglis went missing as he can in games.
Loyalty probably cost Qld in out of form players.

Great game, and the gap is definitely started to even up big time.
Queensland didn't turn up for large portions of the game which cost them.

And how atrocious were the refs in those last 10 minutes?
Some of those calls were complete nonsense, if Queensland won from those it would have been chaos

Lillyman and Taylor could be likely for Origin II if there's a mood of change in the air.

What a brutal, great game. I haven't seen passion like that in the bar for nearly ten years. Men were close to tears.

No one will count Qld out for the Sydney game but it would still be considered a massive 'All Black-like' choke if the Blues didn't win. They look the stronger, better team. Qld of old would have snatched a win at the death tonight.

I want the Blues to win...well, as long as Greg Bird doesn't show his ugly mug around too much.
