Very sad news today. 59 years, still very young, especially Folkes who was quite fit and did a lot exercise even after playing. My condolences to his family and the people at the club who were close to him and I'm sure there are heaps as I heard he was a well liked person.

Did he have any heart problems? I was born with a hole in my heart, have had open heart surgery twice and I get a yearly checkup. I had my last checkup 2 weeks ago and my health is very good at present.

Nothing of note. He was as fit as a horse. It just goes to show when your time's up, your time's up. What's written in the script will happen.

Good to hear your heart is going very good mate, you must have a good story to tell. There's this bloke I know who had a heart transplant last year. It looks like he will be in line for another one. However had has been pronounced legally dead on 12 occasions. Unbelievable stuff. He's a true trooper.

Terribly sad, far too young, and really feel for his family

A terrific and terribly tough back rower in his day - speechless

Steve Folkes: a solid and loyal first grade backrower! Think Folkes had some influence in starting up rugby league in the West Indies? The game is still alive and well in this part of the world. A true rugby league doer!

One blessing of his passing is that fox are showing some tribute matches at the moment, he played and coached the game in some of its greatest years.

I was born with heart problems and needed surgery when I was a few months old. From 2009-11 I needed constant MRI's scg's etc as my heart wasn't working well and in August 2012 I had valve replacement surgery. Everything has been working well since then. No incidents either. Feeling good now.
