Rogers does a good job but there is a hell of lot of areas were we suck.

Marketing, the web site, sponsor satisfaction (according to those you less then impressed with it) ...and, what about the atmosphere, seems different to other years.

Rogers does a decent job, but I'm sure we could find someone who could do a hell of a lot better. He's very honest, and obviously 100% loyal to our club, but in terms of the others skills required to be a good CEO, I'm sure we could do better. For the kind of salary and perks that top League administrators get, I'm sure we could find someone with fantastic business skills and a good understanding of football. There must be hundreds of other Shane Richardson's around, who never get where he has because they didn't play first grade football.

As for the original idea, I'm not sure if he would do any better job as president than Pierce. He may be our greatest ever player, but I'm not convinced he's a brilliant administrator. I'm still 100% behind a return of Gow.

well said Angry, do you have an opinion on how that does, or should work at our club currently ?, do you think the structure should be changed to achieve what you have outlined above ?
Not an easy question.
I will start by saying I have no real knowledge of the current structure.

That said, from afar internal politics seem to contribute to the decision making process, not to mention nepotism that is obvious.

The days of chook raffles as a source of income are long, an NRL club is big business these days, and we as a club have to accept this and structure our club to compete in the said environment.

So basically my observations are the Board and CEO are far too involved in the day to day running of the football team. This IMO should be left to Sludge in conjunction with the coaches of the day. Furthermore Sludge should left to manage all football related matters – fullstop.
The board should be concerned with the leagues club profitability, club expansions, leasing arrangments, marketing exposer, legal responsibilities and alike, not who we are signing next season.

So IMHO
The board and the CEO should be well credentialed business people, with skills in marketing, accounting, legal and management.
These are the guys that arrange and collect the finances and ensure all our dealings are legal and financially sound.
Being an ex footballer is totally irrelevant at this level. Give me the guys who know how to make and spend money wisely.

So now that our board and CEO now are qualified professionals, they need a guy who does know his Rugby League, so they hire one and judge his performance by how the well the clubs teams compete. After all, this will affect revenue which is their responsibility.

then we come to the position I refer to as Football Manager another name could be coaching director, and really should be the heart of the club.
This guy should be an ex-player or coach, with the key responsibilities being hiring and firing all coaches, trainers, strappers, talent scouts and players.
It should be this person job to ensure the overall happiness of the coaches and players at the club.

The coach should coach the side and make requests to the football manager on who they should sign.

It seems so simple, and then ego’s get involved.

And always new, young and clueless. They'd have total turnover every six months due to maternity leave requirements!
