Stevo Charged

Does anyone get the impression the Dunley aquittal on appeal is being kept very much under wraps? I haven't seen anything that explains why this matter was suddenly overturned. I mean the guy was facing four weeks imposed by three respected ex players guided by a QC.

I think the NRL needs to come out and tell anyone interested what vital new evidence was presented.

Otherwise I will continue to remain skeptical of the whole system.

they appealed and said there wasent suficient evidence.

It makes sense now that they have fixed the page at nrl.com. Originally it said base penalty 150 which I knew was wrong.

The points are easy to work out.

BP 125 + 20% loading (it still says 50% but it's wrong)

125 + 25 = 150 - 25% for EGP (31.25) = 112.5

I am assuiming he is looking at missing the Cowboys match, unless he fights it and wins..

Yep, remember though if found guilty when fighting it they can re grade you upwards. Not worth it IMO

Cop the one and move on.

Just so everyone understands. It makes no difference what the ref and video ref say at the time. The VRC is stand alone and can charge players who are not on report or even penalised. "On report" is just a referral from the referee.

They have obviously looked at it and decided it is lifting not leading.

I say he should fight it, there is no evidence that he intentionally lifted his knee.. Its his bloody running style, it happens in nearly every tackle of nearly every game..

So Stevo cops time because PJ can't tackle?

There was nothing wrong with the run - Stevo is a prop for crying out loud.

Fight it Stevo!

It really just doesn't make sense to me. The only reason the tackle came under scrutiny was because PJ got hurt. The only reason he got hurt was because he put his head in front of Stevo's legs. Poor technique = concussion = charge. Good technique by tackler = no injury = no charge. Ridiculous

I really believe that the Dunley matter has opened up a can of worms which the NRL is secretly trying to re-seal. It is a classic case of the lawyers getting their way with gobbly gook. Therefore I would support a not guilty plea based on the lack of intention and expert opinion of Marsh's technique.

I have not seen replays since watching the game on Saturday night but as I recall it (beer impaired enough to be grumpy Da Vinci but not vision impaired) there was a big question whether Stevens knee vs his thigh and hip actually hit PJ. I think one of the Fox commentators said exactly that at the time. Anybody else have a view?

I say don't.

It's 4 minutes into the second half on the replay now. Stevo has done it about 4 times.

The running argument does not wash. When every other forward on the field takes a hit they brace and take the collision with their upper body. Stevo stops, props and raises his knee. It is not part of his running.

If he contests it he will lose IMO.

Saw it on ch 9 yesterday - his knee came nowhere near the head - the contact was higher around the hip. Sterling and co said it was bad luck through poor technique. I agree - fight it!

Exactly Sharknows,

Im not agreeing with his style, but that is how Stevo runs every single time he has the ball. If the Dunley case was decided on "insufficient evidence" surely this case must follow suit. After all the referee, after the video ref looked at it numerous times, deemd it as 'leading' not 'lifting'. Jimmy should take this one on. WE NEED SWEET JUSTICE..... it cost us the match, isnt that enough.

Theres a photo on the fox sports site that shows its his hip that PJ collects not his knee.

You are kidding??

You've got a funny idea where his hip is then.

• Judiciary Report: Round 12
30 May 2005
Cronulla front rower Jason Stevens could miss Saturday night's clash with North Queensland after being charged with knee-lifting by the NRL match review committee.

The veteran prop was hit with a grade one contrary conduct charge for an incident which flattened Parramatta hooker PJ Marsh in the Eels' 34-26 victory at Toyota Park on Saturday night.

Marsh, who has a history of neck injuries, was taken from the field in a neck brace after it appeared his head came in contact with Stevens' knee as he went in for a tackle on the big front rower.

But he was later cleared of any serious injury.

Stevens will miss one match whether he accepts the early guilty plea or unsuccessfully fights the charge at the NRL judiciary.

that pic in DV's last post doesn't look too positive for stevo. totally different to the angle i saw on fox sat nite. he is lifting and leading with his knee. if he used his hips or body to check the defender he'd be fine, but that looks dangerous to me. also PJ doesn't look so low as i first thought he was from watching the tv broadcast.

but if it's one week anyway he may as well fight it if he and the club want to. be good to have him on board for the trip to FNQ
