I completely agree with you on that perverse ... I just feel like his punishment is about what he's accused of, not necessarily what he did. in light of watmough and laffranchi, I can get why he'd be pissed. even though I understand why the nrl has to act when it's someone high-profile, because of all the media attention, it's still sucks to be part of a double-standard because of how successful you are.

god I am so charitable today. usually I'm more from the SUCK IT UP OR QUIT camp.

that's the thing! gallop tried to say it was because he'd been picked as the nrl poster boy ... but I still think it's because of the sexual assault charges.

if it wasn't there should at least be some kind of suspension for watmough too.
Got it in one. And Watmough is very lucky.

Isn't there a thing where Gallop can't say it's because of the charges, because of the risk of that reflecting badly on Stewart in the court case? For a similar reason weren't Cronulla careful in their wording when standing down Bird, because they didn't want that action to reflect badly in his court case, but knew it was an action they had to take?

Yeah what's happening Sassy? You should try giving up smoking or something (if you in fact smoke anything to give up)?

I don't know if the suspension will take a huge part in Stewart's case, well, I bloody hope it doesn't.

yeah they wouldn't wanna say anything prejudicial to his case ... not just because they're on a particular side but because anything that compromises the integrity of his trial (if there is one) will just take more time and more money. manly and the nrl have been smart so far in saying nothing.

perverse i know he is gonna be held to higher standard being the NRL poster boy, i guess i just feel for him coz we have all had those spastic drunk nights where we have missing hours and what not. especially at 23.

Yep, they've tried to keep it out of the charges/case, but have been attacked for the wording/reasoning in doing so.

Gallop/NRL can't win. No one seems to see how they're hard done by, everytime something happens or allegedly happens.

that's fair enough... you're entitled to feel that way i guess. all i'm saying is that this particular viewpoint really has no bearing on the actual reality of what has taken place. as i've said i genuinely hope this is a precedent and that all troublemakers on the drink are held to the same high standards... because we really need to be serious about it. the camels back really can't take much more of it i fear. we have a new TV deal coming up soon, and it would be very nice to stay clean for a while and bump our value up a bit.

Of course they can't win.
They do something - people think what they did was f*cked.
They don't do something - people wonder why they're letting things happen by themselves.

Cherington? Tricky one Tommax. Has he been charged yet, or are the anger management classes preventative. Or are they the outcome of an allegation that has now been resolved - the punishment as some would say?

I'm pretty hardline when it comes to guys disrespecting women, through domestic violence and sexual assault. If it occurs, I think think it's despicable, one of the worst things any guy can do. I'm pretty much zero tolerance, no excuses, would dump a mate over stuff like that easily.

How do I think it will pan out? If he does his classes, and becomes a better person less likely to ever do sh*t like that, then that's a positive outcome. How does the code/game deal with it? If he's charged, I'd like to see them treat it the same as sexual assault charges - stand down until resolved.

But as we've discussed that would probably need a separate entry in this code of conduct, as there seems no intoxication aspect here that they could act upon. A grouped category of charges like sexual assualt, domestic violence (and maybe throw in a few others) that the code explains players would be automatically stood down from playing by the club/league (on full pay) until the charges are heard in court.

He has been charged ,plead guilty and is awaiting sentencing.David Gallop has said that if the facts are'nt in dispute then they will act if the club does'nt.He used the Tevita Latu incident as an example.(Sacked by club as soon as he plead guilty)

Do you think the NRL will come over the top because the Roosters have not acted??

don't reckon they'll have to! the incentive isn't as great for the roosters to protect cherrington as it is for manly to protect their super-amazing-star-fullback. you know?

Could be... everyone needs some softness in their lives ;-)

omg I bet it's because I went to that health farm. THEY MADE ME GIVE UP CAFFEINE.
OMG. Did you know that was part of the deal before you went?

And like ciggies, shouldn't giving up coffee make you... less soft? Or were the other aspects so blissful nothing really... matters... too... much... anymore?

OK, I'm a bit out of the loop in that one. When was he charged and when did he make the plea - this year? Last year? Or like yesterday?

Do you think the NRL will come over the top because the Roosters have not acted??
Is he due to run out in Round 1? If so that's a bit wrong now if someone doesn't act. Pleading guilty is an admission. He should be stood down until the sentence is resolved imo, even if it isn't a jail sentence in the end.
