I did say "for the most part" Willow. ;-)

I lived in Coolangatta. I did find if people had moved there from elsewhere (you, Serb, Twiz to name a few) they were pretty good and made up the vast majority of my friends there. But the born and bred locals were complete and utter merkins who went out of their way to make life difficult.
Well it is on the border, so maybe there's a bit rivalry with the Tweed. As you know, Gold Coast covers a big area south to north.

North is where the good folk live... lol@southGC.

You're always welcomed here SGL. But besides that, I'm quite happy for other people to bag out on the GC. I don't want anymore of them coming here.

I'm late to the thread but the Gold Coast wouldn't be my first choice to settle and raise kids. Gold Coast and the rest of SE QLD are so different. I live in Bellbowrie which is 18k west of Bris but still north of the river and it's my favourite place I have lived in. 1000 sq metre 4 bed homes are around 500k. More gets you more...

If ocean proximity is the goal, you are better going for the Sunshine Coast or eastern suburbs (like Thornlands etc) over the GC in my humble opinion.

You couldn't pay me enough to move back to SE Qld. Leaving for Sydney was the best move I've ever made.

Horses for courses really
Depends on so many factors

I couldn't handle the weather in Queensland - but for the average punter, housing in Brisbane is far more affordable. There is less congestion, a more laid back lifestyle etc

The GC is really developing a improved vibe over the last 5 years, some brilliant restaurants popping up, many in the "burbs" not to mention some brilliant bars & cafes also in the burbs. Having lived here for decades, it's developing from a soulless beach town to a coastal city with a "local" culture that's finally shaking of the white shoe/tacky moniker of years gone past.

Having lived in Brissy for 6 years in a good suburb (about 8 years ago), you couldn't get me back there. There is a reason why the M1 is a nightmare heading south on Friday arvos & heading north on Sunday arvos/evening.

Any news re: decision or making the move Incorrect?

Hey _Johnsy, thanks for the follow up. I haven't been in the Ask Anything thread for a while, at least sicne the new layout to the forums was released...

No real updates at this stage. We're still keen on making the move, but it still can't happen until I get a job in SE Qld... In 2 and a half weeks we're away on a family holiday overseas for 6 weeks so when we get back I'll be getting cracking on looking for something. I've applied for a few positions in QLD Govt, but nothing positive so far... Knowing my luck, they'll be calling me for an interview while I'm OS!

Cheers!

As I said earlier, if you need to anything down the track, just send me a PM, more than happy to help where I can.

Thanks mate. I may just do that when I get back from the overseas trip and my relocation plan gathers momentum.

Appreciate it! Cheers

I can assist with advise as well. Living in Birkdale currently (very close to Wellington Point). Bit of a bugger public transport wise cause it takes say 30mins to drive to work in Bris city, but door to door 1hr 20mins on the train.

Used to live on the Gold Coast as well, Runaway Bay and Southport. Neither place would I recommend to live in.
