Stopping a try with your foot: ban it.

I'd be happy to see knees to the ribs ir backs treatthe same way as ahigh tackle. Doesn;t matter if it was intentional or not the act and consequence deserve punishment due to the high risk of injury being caused. Very bizarre that they are now saying kicking at the ball is not punishable unless it causes injury, seems a very different take on previous comments about the rule.
Mind you this is the NRL and depending on who you are, who you play for or what game you have coming up in the next week or two there seems to be a fair bit of "interpretation" to most foul play.

Perth red, i think you could also add in which way the wind is blowing, or what the review panel had for breakfast.

Its difficult to penalise IMO because you have to take into consideration that sometimes it can't be helped. If a player falls to his knees to stop himself, thats seems ok to me. But not for trying to stop a try.

Good way to look at, you cant be suspending players every time it happens. It cannot be avoided sometimes.

just get the dick heads to enforce the no legs in tackle rule.
Funny how Brisbane couldn't give a penalty away against St G (well only 1) and were down 2 nil in eventime against Manly.

Should be allowed to stop it with hands only, or face. I'd pay to watch that, flying head butt at the ball

 I could imagine Nate Myles diving in with his head to save a try.

Years ago, Matthew Ridge, when playing fullback for Manly, kicked the ball out of the hands of an opposing player when he was diving over the tryline.

when ridge was with the warriors in superleague he made a habit out of it. he kicked glen lazurus in the ehad one time trying to "save" a try (he was unsuccessful and not punished for it), later in the year I believe he broke Chris Ryan's jaw (reds players) doing the same thing and got like a week suspension.

there's a rule already about this, the MRC need to actually pull up players who lead with their feet/knees.

Don't ban it, just acknowledge you f**ked up by letting Matai off. That's what the NRL should do.

Matai's foot hit the ball before he kneed the player. He was never going to get charged, so no need for anyone to say he got off.
The sooner they outlaw this play the better. We've seen Williams get a broken cheek in an Origin game from it, do we need to see a player knocked out cold for something to be done?

FFS what is it with people and facts around here?

  1. Williams did not have a broken anything. Just bruising and swelling.
  2. Thurston was charged for that offence.
  3. It has been outlawed as per above.

Again, Hayne was charged in 2009 but like Thurston escaped suspension due to early plea.

Understood. Still, unpunished.. unless we're counting the points loading as punishment. Which is fair enough really.

I also think there is a big difference between the Slater incident and some of the others since. Slaters feet were coming in at the ball where as some of the others were bodies coming across and sliding (I presume to get a low body position to push the player out).

I think this needs to be looked at case by case rather than blanket style.

It wasn't that bad. It looked like he was trying something and then decided against it and tried to pull out, and as a result he landed knees first into the player. I wouldn't like to see someone miss the grand final over that.
