Storm tactics

This has probably been covered in the game thread, but I just have to say - my hatred of certain players on the Storm grew to a new level with this game.

Nelson Asofa-Solomona continues to be an absolute thug. His running with a cocked arm causes injury - Finucane copped this, from what I could tell. He absolutely dropped his full body weight on Kennedy - another injury. I know that’s part of the sport, but it’s still pretty low.

Kaufusi is also out to hurt players, by whatever means. Late hit on Hynes… Worse was the crusher on Mulitalo.

Not a fan…

Unfortunately it is the game. Remember how much we loved Wade smashing Cronk back in that day.
Nico was fair game. Kennedy borderline. The bumpers taking Dale out is always a grey area.

for what is worth I hate the big merkin aslo but that physical elimination is fair game..

They aren't that good.
Couple of moments of individual brilliance on their part and some bogus legs up.
great showing from us last night.
we have their measure.

That hip drop call was ridiculous.

Kaufusi has always had plenty of Storm grub in him. Nelson dominated with power running. The bumper bars are exacerbated by his height.

We needed to push back as well, run harder with ball, and work them over.
They had a makeshift prop in Brandon Smith remember, and a very inexperienced bench.
I do think our bench lacked impact, I understand Tolman on early.
But when Fifita and Williams came on no big charges no big hits in tackles

When we went straight thru the middle, with composure, we made good yards. It is when we went off track, off plan and lost composure things got messy. Two times… Munsters f**king second half restart, we got rattled and then boom..try.that was coming all day after that kick..papi goes right and Hughes and the others..key here is others go left..big hole in the d. Fixable.

second is right after Williams drops the ball.. we are on the roll and then bang composure.grant should not have got that ball down but that is what they do, find a way to win.
We are the grasshoppers and cannot cross the rice paper yet without breaking it, but we are on the way.
jesse rushing up also..composure

The first half we were walking through them up the middle, the second not so much. They adapted and started spoiling. It is their way, and our staff would have known that. Those bigger hits by Nelson and Kafusi were not coincidence.
Not bringing BHU and Toby back on earlier was a mistake in my opinion. They both were making way more metres up the middle than Tolman and A-Fi.

Agree. Finucane injury stuffed the rotation. Williams not ready for longer minutes. He is a quality over quantity player. Tolman did some excellent clean up work at crucial times but isnt going to bend the line. Love the fact that Fifita is back but he looked a cumbersome at times.

BHU out is a big blow as he is the power runner. Need Royce to step up and grab his chance.

I think we should bring them back on earlier in most games tbh. If they go off 20 mins in and don't come back until the 60 min mark, they've been out of the action for a good 50 minutes with the half-time break. I'm not a sports scientist but that seems like more than enough time to recover for a second stint.

With Finucane off my feeling is that we maybe could have brought at least one of them back on earlier, but they stuck to their plan and they know a helluva lot more than me, so i'll live with it haha

I wouldn’t mind experimenting with Rudolph getting a short 12 min stints.

Start the game with a very early interchange then bring him back on for 12 either side of half time and 12 again to finish the game off.
Give him the role of 12 minutes of flat out footy.
Nearly every team tries to max the first stint of all their main props but I think it’s detrimental, most end up making missed tackles, handling errors, penalties in the ruck, less meters and and don’t dominate the ruck or line speed.
Then when they come back for a second stint they tire out twice as fast and the quality is poorer.
It’s easier to refill the tank mentally and physically if you don’t empty it first.
It uses an extra interchange possibly but if McInnes can play 80 at lock it doesn’t matter.

I ntoice Bellayache with Nelson had 19 minute stint, got him back on at 53rd minute, and you could see Strom lift

I can see why you’d hate the storm tactics of ripping your outside defence to pieces lol. Big Nelson totally dominated your pack and you might want to look at the lack of mongrel in your side.
