Can anyone list out the juniors that we have let go. i.e. juniors were not steady 1st graders before leaving and how they are going? And recently.

Done Good
=======
David Williams
Zeb Taia
Willie Tonga (debatable)

Not Setting the World on Fire
===================
Tony Williams
John Williams
Brett Andersen
James Maloney
Trent Hodgkinson
Jack Afamasaga
Blake Green
John Mannah

I don't think we can judge the guys in bold, personally...Williams has been at Manly 5 rounds and not broken in yet, he may or may not. Maloney and Mannah debuted last week, Hodkinson is still behind Orford and probably won't get much of a shot this year, and Green is both behind players and terribly used by that idiot Stuart when he does play. He played a game at 7 a few weeks back and had a very good game IMO.

I'd also add Delaney to the list of players who have done well

what do you mean by let go?

it's not like all of them weren't offered a contract. some other clubs seem to have a special junior cap though

can't clubs like Melbourne get away with signing players on big money to their Queensland Cup side because it has a larger cap than NSW Cup?

That's shocking if true that we let then kid leave the family he was placed with and head to the block....

what was he doing at "The Block"?

running amok?

living with extended family?

kids can have a lot of difficulty moving away from friends, family, local environment, etc at such a young age. Aboriginal kids seem to feel this pressure a lot more intensely. if he had extended family in the area and was more comfortable living with them it has probably contributed to him actually being able to stay on in Sydney and hopefully forge a career from his ability. without it he may have hightailed it back to Kempsey and be playing for the Thunghutti mob.

i don't pretend to know what he was doing at the block, but if this story is true it would seem that Parra management were happy with the arrangements.

do you know why he was there?

ok not let go but someone offered more or overs for them.

I was trying to see if the Overs that they paid had paid off or not and as such, should we have matched them by paying overs to retain them.

I personally think not.

League players have a relatively short career and money does talk. So why not let them go and try and get them back in 3-5 years time when they have proven themselves.

I have to disagree with you regarding Kevin Wise, this guy cares alot about the young players and regularly checks on their welfare and takes great interest in what they do on and off the field.

I never said Kevin doesn't care about the welfare of the players, in fact I would say he cares too much. Since Albert was signed by the club people such as Kevin have gone out of their way to keep the kid happy at the club and I have no doubt adding Mark Morrison to the NYC coaching staff was partly for this reason also. Kevin is a nice bloke but I just feel he is a bit out of touch with things like the disciplining of our junior players.

The family of Nathan Campbell (former flegg player) took Albert in when he came to sydney and the following year Ryan Fish from NZ also went to live with the Campbell's. The day that Albert left the Campbell's started with Albert missing the school bus and then having an argument on the phone with Mrs Campbell before heading to Redfern, one of his many dummy spits.

At Patrician Brothers he would regularly sulk on the field if played in any position except five eighth. I could go on but I'm sure you all get the picture.

In my opinion the club should offer Albert a contract at the bottom end of our top 25 and if he won't sign let him go and move forward with Keating and Mortimer.

I would think that its more like they were tolerating the situation.

I believe he was staying with family but as I said it was caused by a dummy spit and the club weren't aware until after the Campbell's notified them.

Albert also took off back to Kempsey on at least one occasion and there was also the incident when playing SG Ball where he turned up late and was still allowed to play.

The point I was trying to make is the club has bent over backwards in trying to keep Albert happy and he seems to only give a stuff about #1 and isn't at all appreciative of those that help him. I do realise the cultural differences Albert and other players must experience when moving away from family but that doesn't excuse someone from taking advantage of the situation.

yeah I reckon ppl shouldn't be too quick to judge the guy when we know nothing about the situation

having said that, it does peev me a bit though that it seems like some young players and probably more their minders see our club as a pitstop where you'll get looked after and brought along, then its on to the best situation :?

It's like the workforce in China for Banks.

The local foreign banks trains up the chinese fresh grad for a couple of years and gives them a good foundation. Once they are really ready to work, the bigger foreign banks comes and offers them double the money and they leave.

I recall reading that Mortimer is at Parra coz it has probably the best junior training. Sounds familiar.

I read he came for Hagan, because he had played all over the backline, hard to believe, but I think its true.

I spoke with Kelly and a few months back and asked if he was going to stay at Parra and he said "I hope so."

Didn't sound like he wanted to go. Then again big$$$$$ and all the promises from the Origin coach can corupt an young mans mind.

what else is he gonna say to a parra fan?
he hopes parra are the biggest bidder? ;-)
too funny

Im with stagger, offer them what they are worth, with incentives to play first grade. Give them a reasonable time frame to sign a contract, if they dont, its bye byes.
