You can see Quinn has worked hard on this move in the off-season...

Disgraceful technique (And I have seen the footage)..

Melba need to work on scoring points

New Storm tactics under fire

Melbourne found itself at the centre of another tackling controversy last night after damning vision emerged of Storm players using new wrestling moves against rival teams.

Shown on pay-TV program NRL on Fox, the techniques were slammed by the commentators including former Brisbane hardman Gorden Tallis and Balmain legend Wayne Pearce.

The footage was taken from the Storm's past two matches, a 17-16 loss to Cronulla at Olympic Park and last Saturday night's 10-6 loss to the Sydney Roosters at the Sydney Football Stadium.

One incident showed Melbourne forward Adam Blair applying pressure to the outstretched arm of Sharks prop Ben Ross while another shows Storm winger Anthony Quinn doing the same to Roosters captain Craig Fitzgibbon.

It is understood Fitzgibbon rose to his feet and complained to referee Shayne Hayne following the incident. The images have been passed on to referees coach Robert Finch.

Tallis, an NRL director, voiced his displeasure, calling for the league to come down hard on any club caught using the latest evolution of the grapple tackle.

"I like the way Melbourne Storm play, I think they're a wonderful footy side and I really like the coach, but that shouldn't be in the game at all," Tallis said.

"I'd like to see all the coaches who have these wrestling coaches, get put in these holds and see if they like it. It shouldn't be in the game."

Informed last night about the latest drama involving the premier, a Melbourne spokesperson said it was news to the club.

"The NRL have not notified the CEO, the football manager or the head coach of any wrongdoing," the spokesperson said.

NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said he had not seen the footage and therefore had no comment at this stage.

The worst part for me with this tackle is it doesn't work. We have been struggling with the ruck speed this year. It's a stupid tactic with the potential for unjury, and as far as i can tell it isn't exactly winning us the rucks this year. Maybe our coaching staff should get back to concentrating on putting points on the board instead of this crap cause that's where we've been really struggling.

I'm expecting it to be outlawed pretty quick.

hellteam. The new Razor.

or his alias?

anyway we can all try to convince him otherwise, but than why waste time on a mentally challenged child who has just hit puberty, and seeing that he has one pub growing, thinks his all grown up and smart.

Piss off, leave them alone. All they are trying to do is slow the play the ball down like every team and now that you cant attack the head then what else can you do.

Its so funny that like they act that this wrestling stuff has come out now when in the old days every play the ball was a wrestling for like 2 minutes.

I see a few here believe that Melbourne are just trying to get an advantage in the play the ball. I 100% agree that what the Storm are trying to do is get an advantage.

BUT, must it come through pain submission? Should a player be put in a choaker hold or take a 100kg of weight on their neck or nearly have an arm ripped from its socket so Melbourne can win the play the ball?

Its not a fair advantage in my opinion and anybody who is willing to argue that it doesn't risk injury or is okay too do because its not in the rules needs to lye down and let their brain cell have a break.

Is it currently illegal? No

Did the referees or touchies object? No

Did the players object? No more than usual

Did the commentators notice at the time? No

Do other teams grab players arms in gang tackles? You Bet

Are the Storm better at it than others? You Bet

Is it worse than twisting the head/neck or attacking someone's spine? No

Will the NRL crack down on it? Probably should do. They seem to bend over to every media report in the last two years.

Will it affect the Storm? Unlikely. It will just fire them up as usual.

Was the NRL on Fox a properly researched opinion piece? No - it was crappy journalism with laughable inputs from Gorden Tallis, and overly theatrical performance from Warren Smith.

Will Bellamy come out with a Dossier of other teams doing this to the Storm? There'd be no shortage of examples, he probably should. But he's probably sick of doing this to be honest.

Every tackle has risk...EVERY tackle. Twisting a man's arm until it breaks has not yet occurred. The Storm cannot be guilty of something that hasn't happened.

Let's play footy - its a tough contact game.

Thanks for stating the bleeding obvious...Where do stand on the technique...???

your kidding. more stuff about the storm ?? bottom line is it works.

you storm bashers are all just cut you dont have a coach who thinks steps ahead of the rest. even if the storm do do this on purpose. its not against any law of the game
It's against the spirit of the game, a catch-all that covers all this rubbish. Is that still a rule?

Whilst ever its legal to do it - more power to them. Why are more teams not doing it - probably because it really isn't that effective.

Like the Ross/White and Gallen incidents, it's only the perpertrator's club's fans defending it, and that says a lot to me. And Hellteam, but the quality of her postscounts her out too.

Nothing the Mexicans do anymore surprises me, scum, and have been for a long time, over the years, they have pulled off some of the biggest dog acts on the field.

Well to be fair some of the more level headed Melbourne fans have admitted that it's happening.
