Sucked in Italy...

France and Italy can't perform very well outside of Europe tbh. 2002 in Korea/Japan they both exited early as well. Also France has now made back to back group stage exits at major tournaments, Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010.

Anyone know why Giuseppe Rossi didn't make the Italy squad? Thought he was their best player at the Confed Cup.

Lippi went for experience and the same players who won the last competion.

The main difference between this world cup and the last few for them is in the past players like Rossi (the older one), Schillaci, Baggio or Del Piero have been there to add a bit of spark. This time when it went wrong they had no one to turn to. Pirlo is fading, Montolivo isn't good enough (yet?), De Rossi is a very good player but hasn't got the game to spark a team (I'd take him at my club though). The ones to look to were Marchisio or Di Natale who are not as good. More than Rossi i would of put Cassano in there, he is the only player in Italy who comes close to providing what Italy need.

Also, when your top teams (Inter) first choice 11 has no Italians in it, you know your in trouble. England, Spain and Germany are the other Euro nations with strong leagues and there national teams come from the top teams.

When you bogan Aussies have won 4 WC's like Italia then you can criticise!

Bogan? Didn't realise such Aussie cultural vernacular had reached the mouths of mainland Europeans, even those who seem to speak english like a native.

Anyway, I think 2 world cups and it's fair game. Needing a monster like Mussolini forever part of our history really wouldn't be worth the others.

Mussolini would easily be one of the greatest Italians who ever lived
I think having a Mussolini gives Italy an extra 2

Mussolini > Hawke
Mussolini > Howard
Mussolini > The Queen

This is actually more insulting to Italians than mocking them for their world cup failure.

Depending in which Italians you talk too, Mussolini is a hero in some parts of Italy.

Mussolini wine on sale in Italy =)

Fans still wave Mussolini flags at Serie A games,
Some still think he is a hero so I wouldn't class it as insulting at all.

There are people in this world who are proud to be known as Nazis, racists, heck, even Manchester United fans. Doesn't make any of those things positive by any means.

his only mistake was the alliance with Germany but we dont need to turn this into a political debate.

Unlucky for Italy
