Hi guys and gals

i'll finally be getting myself a new computer on the weekend after about 5 or 6 years and i am looking at getting a new game and am after some recommendations.

I like most type of games but my fav game of all time is the Civilisation series and generally prefer strategy type games.

Also bare in mind that i don't really have the time to get into the really complicated games that seem to suck people in like the online games ie WOW seem to do. So bascially just a game i can put on for a few hours when i'm bored after work.

So what would everyone recommend a why?

I've been hearing some really good things about World in Conflict

World in Conflict is excellent, but if you're a fan of the Civ series you could try Civ 4, or Medieval and it's many addons.

Either way try the World In Conflict demo, it is a fantastic looking game, probably the best looking strategy game I've ever seen, the AI is a little dull but it is action packed.

WIC is great.

Got it last week, not so much as strategy game per se. There's no base building. It's like a combination of a good FPS and a RTS. You get an allocated amount of "reinforcement" points which build up gradually during each mission, obviously to call in reinforcements. You also have the option of a variety of fire support (including napalm!).

Campaign is shortish, but fun.

But it's biggest minus is the lack of Skirmish missions. My internetz sucks atm, so online play is near impossible.

Civ4 is incompatible with Vista too. I got a new PC last week and upgraded from XP to find Civ4 does not run at all.

Googled it a bit, could not find a solution.

I have Civ 4 and am quite sick of it now hence the reason for something new

Then go for World In Conflict... Good game with top graphics.

The Witcher is an outstanding newly released RPG I'm playing at the moment.
Graphics engine based on NWN 2. Very much enhanced though.
I've only just started, but I get the feeling it's got a deep story line, but it also has a very fun combat system.
Brilliant game. For mine it's the game of the year.
