Lets look at Watson's averages since the start of 2009 considering you must be calling Watson the best player in the world based off his awesome form over this period ....
Test:
61 Bat 33 Bowl
One days:
47 Bat 21 Bowl
Stats don't cry out BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD
Maybe BEST ALL ROUNDER IN THE WORLD... maybe
Lets compare to Kallis ....
Tests:
52 Bat 46 Bowl
One Days:
53 Bat 51 Bowl
So yes Watson had the better 2009/10 period BUT if you look at the 2010 stats so far Kallis >>>> Watson in both forms of the game
2010 Stats Tests
Kallis 61 Bat 56 Bowl
Watson 35 Bat 36 Bowl
2010 Stats One Dayers
Kallis 102 Bat 24 Bowl
Watson 41 Bat 21 Bowl
Plus Kallis has been consistently great over many years, Watson had a great year in 2009 BUT his stats so far this year are WAY down from last year.
So Watson is not the best all rounder in the world.
Is he the best batsmen?
Lets compare him to Clarke, Katich, Sehwag, Amla, Jayawardena, Sangakkara, Dhoni, de Villiers, Gayle, Ponting
2009 and 10 Tests/One day and Centuries Tests/One days
Watson 61/47 1/3
Clarke 60/42 5/1
Katich 54/na 4/na
Sehwag 72/42 4/3
Amla 71/46 4/0
Jayawardene 63/30 3/2
Sangakkara 57/40 4/0
Dhoni 89/63 3/3
De Villiers 48/67 2/3
Gayle 49/38 4/1
Ponting 47/42 2/3
Gambhir 69/38 5/2
Tendulkar 78/62 6/4
Dilshan 65/56 6/1
Collingwood 48/51 3/1
Comparing Watson with these 'best' of players from around the globe shows during Watson's 'best' period, he does not compare to some. Overall Dhoni, Tendulkar and Dishan all averaged more than Watson in both form of the game AND scored considerably more centuries.
Based of these stats, I would rate Watson amongst the top 15 batsmen in the world currently. If he keeps his 2009 form up (which means improving his current 2010 form considerably, I might rate Watson in the top 10)
If I was just using 2009/10 numbers I would probably rate Watson in the top 5-10 of players in the world. Mind you, I haven't examined the bowlers. I would definitely rate Tendulkar, Dhoni, Dilshan above him. But if I looked at the whole picture I would also probably rate Clarke, Ponting, Sehwag, Sangakarra and of course Kallis, ahead of Watson. And I haven't even delved into the bowlers
Watson can only be considered the 'best player in the world' after a few more years of consistent high quality performances.
So to answer your question ....
'Who has better form at the better at the moment?' (oh by the way, are you just ignoring the fact Watson's form has come down from 2009)
Here are my answers:
DHONI
DILSHAN
TENDULKAR
KALLIS
oh and just because of who he is
BOLLINGER (averages 23 and 21 with the ball)
