I'm pumped! It's hard to split them, but I'm gonna say Leeds 16-12, Sinfield MOM...

Very entertaining first half! Leeds 8-2

Interesting that the refs happy to blow time off for a drop out when there was 30 seconds left - would have been half time in the NRL.

Shaping up to be an absolute classic

Great game, took many twists and turns until about that last 10 minutes.

I've heard Lomax being talked up for a while now but I thought he was pretty ordinary tonight... St Helens seemed clueless whenever they got close to the tryline, they had a few repeat sets there and did nothing. That try (the one where brent webb tried to shield it out) was amazing, never seen one like it!

Lomax is more of a runner than an organising half, prior to round 6 this year he had only been used at fullback, wing or centre in first grade. I think the people talking him up for England were getting ahead of themselves, he needs more time to settle into the role and the experience of playing in the GF should do a lot of good for both him and Gaskell. To be honest it was a great achievement for Saints to make the final with two rookie halves.

The one thing that annoyed me tonight, was the amount of rubbish and speculation coming from the commentary box, instead of talking about what
was happening in play.

It seems they only really commentate on one play in a set, and spend the rest of the time trying to outdo one another with pointless analysis.

Makes it hard to listen to after a while...

A few points

Rob Burrow can be devastating as an impact player, he has to be on the interchange bench for England.

How good was it to see several youngsters out there Lomax, Gaskell, Makinson, Dixon, Hardaker, BJ-B, Foster & Clarkson.

For me, Clarkson & Dixon are unsung heroes, unfashionable but get the job done.

Hope Shenton is ok.

Try suffering that twice a week throughout the season! Sky commentary is a joke. Eddie and Stevo don't have the depth of knowledge to provide serious analysis.

I live in England, so I do suffer it every week :)

Stevo must have x-ray vision, he is the only bloke I know who can see a ball touch the ground when there's 3 bodies in the way.

Brian Carney is by far the most current, knowledgeable member of that commentary team, yet has the least say.

Sorry, mate. Assumed you are in Aus.

Carney's excellent. I think Jon Wells is a real asset who'll improve - imo he needs to improve on his delivery, it's a bit monotone.

I'd like to see the pair of them beside Hemmings, they'd help take the quality of commentary up.

That's cool mate, I am an Aussie, just living here.

I agree about Wells, he's good.
It's Stevo's comments like "and that won't please the coach at all" that he just reels off week after week. I mean does anyone know a coach that would be wrapped with a knock on?

I wonder if he has a pull cord in his back....

Stevo's role isn't supposed to be that of a serious analyst, he's there to add excitement and colour to the game while other like Phil Clarke concentrate on the (often tedious) statistical analysis. If you don't take Stevo seriously, as you shouldn't, he can contribute a lot to the broadcast, and his passion for the game is second to none.

I listened to the game on BBC Leeds radio via the net. I've always enjoyed listening to hockey and baseball on the radio and today's Grand Final was pretty good as to knowing what was happening on the field, although it was pretty biased and I would rather have listened to a feed that was neutral.

Was the game not on Radio 5 Live? You should have listened to that for a neutal commentary.

It's the first game of rugby league I've listened to on the radio. I just went with the first one I saw that made sense on the list in another thread. I'll keep that in mind for next season. I've only seen a few ESL games on TV over the years but plan on paying a little more attention in the future so the radio feeds will be a good source for me.
