Super League would have prevented the exodus

I reckon we have more gun EX-UNION players playing in NYC/cracking FG this year, than first graders that have left to play union recently.

As nice it would be to keep all of them, and it would make the competition stronger, we arren't exactly short of superstars, and the game isn't left with gaping holes where people are wondering "hmmm, if only Spasnier was here.... :( ".

If the NRL does its job and gets us the TV deal we deserve in 2012 (yes, a laughable prospect I know) player salaries WILL increase, along with hopefully a 2 team comp expansion.

That idea was already in progress back in 1996, 97.

Craig Gower only fell in love France after he had the captaincy taken off him at Penrith. As for adding extra teams, has readmitting Souths and adding the Gold Coast stemmed the flow of players to Super League?

If he'd known that the French love people who get drunk and attempt to molest 16 year old girls on golf courses and then sook about all the negative media attention - he'd have gone earlier and saved us having to read about it.

If only.......

The cap has risen steadily since its introduction has it not? With larger jumps for new TV deals/higher NRL grants. And the comp has expanded twice since the rationalisation.

The real issue with League is that we are propping up financially poor clubs for the sake of tradition (which I understand) rather than moving forward. The Salary cap should not exisit and if you cant function as a club then relocate or die.

Disagree with that, as why would you want a competition that has only top few sides.
how boring would the comp be watching the same teams go at it year after year.
thats the reason why i have no interest in the pommy soccer.
the pommy SL is crap too as its the same teams all the time.
whats the point of even having the others when its obvious they could never compete

I'm really concerned after losing QLD Cup player Dustin Cooper to Japanese companyball. Will we survive without him? He was great.

I shed a fart.

I heard that Ben Kusto may be next. Surely Rugby League will collapse by Easter.

Rugby League in Australia should be the world pinnacle of Rugby sports. Instead, it is an inferior go between supported by a minority of traditionalists.

The NRL is the world pinnacle in rugby sports, but sometimes, it just doesn't pay the bills...

Players would just prefer to make some money and save their bodies..If the NRL would allow unfettered third party deals or sponsorship to make extra dosh, then they would stay..

Super league would have killed the game well and truly.
Look it didn't work and its still killing the game.

Who says RL is the pinnacle, its my favourite and I think its best, but if its the pinnacle why is it not popular everywhere ?
And don't bother blaming the NRL its just not that popular around the world and its just not going to be

I'll start worrying when a team has to fold because everyone left. These blokes who leave are replaced with hungry kids immediately.

There's no doubt that there will always be a production line of young players able to replace these players.

You cannot argue however that a competition that still had the likes of Lote Tuqiri, Timana Tahu, Sonny Bill, Mark Gasnier, Luke Rooney, Berrick Barnes and Craig Gower would be a stronger one then without them.

These are the typre of players that fans pay to watch. They are the types young kids collect cards of. They add personality to the game.

The above players i mentioned are the nucleus of a very competitive side.

no. If SL had never been concieved, there would be no "exodus". SL was the problem, not the solution.

add the 1-2 billion spent by both sides on SL to the NRL (ARL) coffers, remove the NewsLtd shackles - and see how successful we would be....
