Thinking I'm going to try going vego again.

I can't tell if it's just me being comfortable, me being depressed, or the fact I've reintroduced regular meat into my diet - but I've had trouble getting out of bed before 3-4 pm the last two weeks.

I'm relatively certain it's depression (the other stuff going on in my head would back that up), but I want to see if there's any correlation between my ending my two month vego experience and my suddenly being unable to summon the energy to leave my bed.

going from a chronic carnivore to having 2-3 veggie dinners a week (which means left overs and veggie lunches the next day) has done wonders for my general existence. Sleeping pattern has been good, no problem with the early starts, dropped 7.5kg so far, blood pressure has plummeted and when everyone else is getting sick because of the winter I've been fine. Having our own veggie garden is a big help

I was never a complete carnivore, so I didn't notice any drastic changes when I switched to full-time vegetarianism.

It's hard to know whether the diet had any impact at all, as at the time I did that I was also travelling, hitting the gym 3-4 nights a week, playing squash twice a week, and playing volleyball once a week.

The gym I've joined here is an unairconditioned hotbox (and 32C is a cool summer day here) and I've yet to find a place where I'd be able to run without breaking an ankle on uneven paths - so I'm gonna try the diet switch instead.

You know your night is going to be a good one when you're shaving your balls ahead of dinner.

Get in, son!

Meanwhile, I've totally negated my gym effort this afternoon by eating approximately a kilo of noodle soup with pork ribs. I regret nothing.

That's my classic gym failing.

Oh, I burned 400-500 calories? Sounds like somebody's earned a Big Mac!

I've basically accepted that I'll never be completely lean. I enjoy food and wine too much for that, and at 182cm and 86kg I'm not unhappy at all. I'm still able to play cricket and the odd game of OzTag without dying, I still throw myself around the field and whatnot, so now that I'm thirty I'll take the extra couple of kgs quite happily rather than not enjoy myself...

I'm coming to the realization that I'll never be lean either.

I can certainly be lighter than I am (178/104kg), but given my build and my shoulders, I'm just never going to get skinny. I reckon 90kg is about as light as I'll ever get, and I don't think I'd enjoy having to get there

I didn't get the build, tbh. Me and my next brother down are the odd ones out in our family. Grandad (on dads side) was a rugby union back rower. So were dad and his only brother, plus three of his five male cousins...all of them 6'4-ish and over 115kg. My third brother is similar and my youngest brother was a prop for a while. I was a fullback/half and second brother was a winger. We were both good fast bowlers in our youth, which requires a certain amount of lankiness...I filled out but he never did

180 and 70kgs.

When my metabolism slows down, I'm a dead man.

On the up side, the foot feels OK. Still bruised a bit though.

I have the finest bruise on my shin from cricket. It deadset goes from ankle to about 3 inches below the knee. Hazards of fielding at short cover with no protective gear
