I read them along with my niece. Teen fiction for sure, but still a well told tale for what it is.

A gajillion time better than the tripe Rowling dished up and had megamarketing cram down the throats of idiots.

Was stuck with nothing to do for a couple of days when they had recently came out, from memory I got through most of the series alongside walking into town semi-frequently, easy to rip through. For what they are they're fairly quality.
