I've never seen such an over-hyped, over commercialised dump in my life. Every corner has some American chain store parked on it and it takes an hour to get anywhere due to all the traffic. This place feels about as close to being on a tropical island as standing in the middle of Pitt st mall in Sydney. Looks like it will be a seriously disappointing end to our honeymoon. Both of us are just sitting across from each other in our hotel room at the moment with the shits and it's only 2 in the afternoon. Got 9 more days of this to come...

lol The good old ABC stores. They are deadset everywhere aren't they

My advise to you would be to get up to the northshore and enjoy a day up there and probably go to Diamond head too.

But yeah, the main island is a shit hole otherwise

one thing i did enjoy was starting at one end of the strip at midday and just following the happy hours down the other end to 7pm. first is 12-1, second bar is 1-2, then 2-4 etc. Then the place we stayed at had $2 bud lights on special so safe to say i was written off by 10pm.

heard stories from a former colleague who did some volunteer work in the congo about locals passing out drunk in the path of the massive ant columns that cut through the jungle. Chopa path through them near surgical like

The U.S is an awesome place to visit for the most part

Joker knows. Been twice and would go back at the drop of a hat.

I loved my day in New York. Need to go back. I didn't mind New Jersey, I feel like it gets a bad wrap.

If you thought Boston was amazing, wait until you get to Portland (Oregon, not Maine).

Piss her off Mis, you just had a girlfriend why would you want another one?

I'd be single but I fell in love with a beautiful perfect woman (apart from the huge flaw of being a Manly fan)

I don't. I was enjoying being casual with this girl, and thought that's what she wanted to. I mean, she didn't even invite me to her birthday party over the weekend. She can't be that interested in romance.

Casual flings seldom stay casual for long mate, just play the shot and see how it lies.

Usually it's me falling head over heels. I've obviously become cynical in my old age.

The lesson learned here is to never go to America.

Lies. One should always go to America. Rad country full of generally okay people, but ruled by rich idiots.

I'd be concerned about Americans being everywhere.
You sound more ignorant than almost any American I met over there

Americans are great, generally. Genuinely nice almost everywhere I went. Different, in different area, but that's fine, you're overseas you want to meet different people. But from the family that shouted me dinner in Nashville to the older upstate NY couple in DC telling me the places to go to numerous people around Yosemite, the most amazing place in the world, to the Fenway tour guide in Bahston and the numerous folk in Chicago who I sat with at the Baseball to the girl who showed me around Georgia Tech, the place is f**king great. Hospitable people, some of the most amazing natural environment you will ever see (Yosemite is incredible, Yellowstone as well, the Rockies, the woods outside San Fran, everywhere), combined with awesome cities (NYC is a mindf**k, but great) and it's pretty easy to get around everywhere as well.

Americans in America are generally great. Probably some of the most genuine and outright helpful people I have ever met were in the states

New York is awesome but pretty hectic to take for too long.

Never been to Jersey

Boston was cool. Chicago and Dallas too

Well said. I've found Americans to be wonderfully warm, friendly, and adorably naive of the world at large.

Portland has so much amazing food and beer, and its hippie vibe is good fun.

Vegas is a mind-f**k, New York is just... wow. Annapolis is a beautiful seaside town. Florida is a lot of fun. Southern Cali is busy and northern Cali is wonderfully relaxed. Seattle and the San Juans are beautiful. Yosemite and the Colombia River Gorge moreso. Northern Idaho holds a special place in my heart too. Really gorgeous area.

Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon are lovely. Phoenix is a hot mess. Disney is worth a look for nostalgia alone.

f**k, I've got to get back.

Im going to head over in august with my girly for 6-8 weeks should be great

Jealous! What are you up to?

Cant believe you only had a day in NYC, I had ten and feel I didnt see all I could've

It wasn't nearly enough time. We got in late Friday night and went to an off Broadway show (Sleep No More, which was amazing). Spent Saturday out at the Statue of Liberty and Battery Park, hit Times Square and rode a tandem bike through Central Park, and then had to head back to Maryland.

I'd have liked more time, but I had a blast even in the small window of time. I even managed to stop off in Philly to see if I preferred Genos or Pats.

I saw Book of Mormon for $27

Was Sleep no More the thing where you go to all different levels and get a different part of a play? My friends did that I think

I'd have loved to see Book of Mormon or Avenue Q, but the girlfriend at the time wasn't amenable. Sleep No More was our compromise, and I think I won. I studied Macbeth extensively in Uni (even performed it in front of packed houses for two weeks) and enjoy that kind of weird, confrontational theatre.

Plus I got a hand-job in the candy shop.

I have absolutely zero desire to visit North America. I reckon Central + South America would be good to visit if they weren't so violent (i know it's a generalisation, but still). I'll stick with galavanting around Asia, would love to visit India next when the cricket is back there.
