Moral dilemma firkers:
Soooooooo my dogs stayed at my inlaws last night (along with the wife, kids and me) and they decided to jump the fence into the next door neighbours chook pen and chow down on the lone chicken inside overnight.
This morning I go out to check on them and there is a 3m radius feather zone, 1 leg and part of what looks like a neck in the corner of the yard. I got some plastic bags and picked it all up because I dont want the kids to come outside and see/touch what is left.
We take the dogs over there regularly and aside from some curious sniffing, they have never even looked like they wanted to get at the chook. The "pen" they have constructed is basically made of that cheap pet fence you get at Bunnings with no roof or other protection. They are on acreage so there is tonnes of land and bush around and I have spotted plenty of feral cats, dogs and the occasional fox in the area
They are the type of neighbours that dont socialise much so we dont know them very well. The laws in Qld mean that if a complaint is made to the council and its proven that a dog has harmed or even scared a human or "pet", then they can be deemed "dangerous" and with that comes a whole myriad of restrictions that we really cant afford or want to inflict on our beloved furry kids. They really are a pair of sooks and Im shocked they have done this but in the end they are animals and chickens are pretty much the quintessential prey in the animal kingdom
Should we tell them? Not tell them? Give them a partial truth ie: We found the parts, cleaned it up, think it was a feral animal? I am genuinely stumped with which way I should go
