Do people not realise that part of the appeal to networks of Origin is the midweek nature of it? You'd take a hit on the money you can generate by moving it to stand alone weekends.

I don't mind the idea of having weekends off around it (maybe the weekend before each origin off in the lead up to wednesday origin, replacing bye's). Then you still have players able to play for their clubs a few days later and the competition isn't quite so affected, as it clearly is at present. A good draw through origin can be the difference between 6th and 12th (you cop some teams without their best players etc).

Staying midweek is pretty vital though.

@UminaPanther - going to see the Bronx in June?

I still fail to see why we run the representative season in the middle of the regular season.

But then, I also fail to see why we still have 26 rounds. That is, until I see that Nein have their claws on the game and it makes them more money for us to do so.

Should be 16 games, Finals / GF, Origin, then Australian squad picked from the Origin teams.

23 games + any Tests afterwards is a far more sustainable approach than what we have now.

lol @ the idea that those in charge can see every single problem that there is and every single solution that there is.

Get rid of the stupid mid season test. Add 2 more weekend breaks. Play Origin in that period. Better for players, better for crowds, better for everybody.

lol @ anyone who thinks they can see every possible problem and solution in any subject

lol @ at any idiot who interprets a comment to read like that's what is being suggested

lol @ any idiot on a forum who thinks they know better than those involved in the daily running ins and outs of a complex organisation

lol @ any idiot on a forum who thinks their ideas will fix everything when really what they're saying is "I want to be appointed as a dictator who can implement my ideas without any consequences or fallout in other areas of the game while keeping all the things I like and getting rid of all the things I don't like regardless of whether other people share that view."

lol @ Hitler mentality

lol @ Souths

16 games? So they play everyone once and then one team twice?

This isn't Union, we don't have a strong enough international game to keep interest going beyond that short a season.

I think the word sustainable isn't quite right either. Taking 4 home games away per team would put a fair dent in the coffers.

Ideally we should be working back towards a target of 22 rounds IMO.

Sorry, 15 not 16. My mapthssss is all confuzzled by man flu.

I think the issue is quality. People want quality footy but Origin tends to cast a shadow over that for 6 or 7 weeks. The hangover means the season is really split into three - the sprint to the front, the endurance of the Origin period, then the last gasp dash to the finals, where once again the whole mix is changed.

Sure, we don't have a strong international game but that's due to poor cooperation by most of the governing bodies. Plus, Australia poaches players who should be playing for minnow nations.

I'd be ok with 22 as well. My problem is 26 is too long and the fact it is spread over, what 29 or 30 weeks? Too much.

The idea of having no re-matches between teams in the regular season sucks.

Also seeing as the NRL resorted to having re-matches already occurring in Round 6 of a 26 round season, I suggest the logistics of making a 15, 16, whatever round competition aren't going to be fun.

still here, its just in a different thread

I am (more than) okay with this, if not a strange thing to do.

Meh. I insist we move BM and BFs rubbish to a separate thread too.

i like this idea..

but what if we all agree that it should happen, but the person who we nominate to do it suddenly backflips on their promise and will make those who have higher posts offer up a higher percentage of their posts to compensate for the previously wasted posts from these two?

I agree there should be rematches. A 15 round comp would see that though (8 games a week, remember, so 15 would see all teams play twice).

My problem is we've played NZ twice already. Makes no sense.

I didn't say that Origin has to be played on a weekend. Have it on whatever night 9 wants. I'm just saying club games shouldn't be played on the weekends before Origin.

Have some 2nd tier nations play or something.

you've been to the 'waldron school of mathematics' i see...

they'd only play each other once... 16 team comp means that your own team has 15 other teams to play...
