Career-driven - yes. However not in that direction (ie more time at work, more weekend work, more useless, non-productive board meetings, less work-life balance). For an extra 20 or so grand, that's not something I'm willing to do.

Like I said I'm happy with my wage and what I have. I would want to progress in a few years time, but not in that direction.

Fair enough, then. Just the way you worded it made it seem the total opposite of that.

in other news, had a great win in touch tonight.. won by one try, which was scored right at the moment the hooter sounded..

great win as we had been behind for all match apart from the last 4 minutes when it had been tied up..

I more meant in terms of fandom. I mean, AFL has fans (lots of them, for some reason), but I've yet to meet a field hockey tragic.

It seems to only become relevant when there's an Olympics or Commonwealth Games to remind us we're good at it.

I quite enjoyed it in high school as well. Was a good alternative to the regular athletics, gymnastics, dance, and soccer rotation my school seemed set on.

We played a fun variant of indoor hockey in high school, can't remember what it was called. You'd have about 20 chairs lined up on the side of the hall, two sets of 10 for the two teams. On the other side is two tables with 5 hockey sticks on them. A puck in the middle and two goals. Everyone would get a number and the teacher would call out 1 - 5 numbers, say go, and you'd sprint across the room get the sticks and play until a goal was scored. I f**king loved it because I was quick and had fast reactions so I either got there to hit the puck just before anyone else did or got there quick enough to prevent the other team scoring. A few times though they changed it so two players had to touch it before a goal would count.

I was actually quite awesome at PE in school. Now I'm a just lazy miserable fatty.
