BDO had it's day unfortunately.
I prefer how they organise the day compared to Soundwave, but Soundwave just started putting way too many good bands on the one show to be ignored. By about 2009, they'd taken over as the premier rock festival.
Still, I enjoyed a lot of my BDOs. From watching Tool, Muse (and don't laugh) my favourite band at the time, The Killers to 2013 when I was making mad dashes through the Chilli Peppers, to Animal Collective to Sleigh Bells, it was a sweet time out.
I think people get it all wrong when they say the show 'isn't how it used to be'. While it never topped those early 2000 shows, for mine, it's biggest problem is that it stuck too close to the same formula and never really evolved. As sad as it is to say, festival goers would much rather see an international act over a local one.
