That is the main issue in the St George area, none of the locals these days play lawn bowls. The only clubs left with bowling greens are:

- Ramsgate RSL
- Moorefield Bowling Club
- Grandviews Bowling Club
- Olds Park Bowling Club
- Bexley Bowling Club

Bexley will be the next to go, followed by Olds Park (Olds Park is Peakhurst Bowling Club, and itself is an amalgamation of at least 3 other clubs which have closed down). Grandviews has a chance at surviving if they put a few bucks back into the business, and Ramsgate RSL is big enough to survive no matter what. Moorefield depends on the good graces of St George Leagues to keep supporting its bowlers playing out of their club.

... because they didn't work to make it approachable culturally with young'ins?

Its a fun game, but they forget the generational shift and the changed that come with it.

Bexley is down the road from my folks, SGL. Its a lovely old club. Its demise will be a sad day.

The first club I joined was looking at a bleak future. Now, 8 years on the average age of the members is 27. It can be done!

Bexley is being propped up by the Latin American community. The minute they decide to go elsewhere will be the end of that club.

As for clubs in general, it is about adapting. Petersham Bowling Club went from run down dive to popular gastro meals & craft beer venue, before the whole craft thing exploded. Strathfield Tennis Club converted their tennis courts to mini soccer fields and now rake it in, as the locals weren't into tennis but loved playing soccer. Those that don't adapt will die.

f**king useless drunks. Lose a few players and quit. Sounds like Parramatta....time to do my ancestors proud and erase that effort from my Irish memory

Yeah the Frat did that to their bowling greens. Mind you it looked like Kensington did that also out the back. Now the bowling club is long gone but the futsal is still going strong.

Austi and Bulli have both folded down here in the last 8 years or so, bulli basically got cut adrift by the rsl club (who had bowling greens then converted them to playground for the kids). The one in scarbrough was in a fair bit of trouble but seems to have turned it around a bit.

Bowls does seem a fun game but whilst I can still run around and play more demanding sports, ceebs.
