My job is far too complicated for one person to handle on their own :fist:

8am calls from my boss. I really like him, but sometimes I don't think he truly understands the breadth of what I do and how much I do.

i love my country..

i can ridicule it's leader without being thrown in jail or tortured..

i can turn on a tap and get drinking quality water..

i can worship whichever imaginary friend i choose, and not be at risk of being persecuted or killed by someone else who worships a different imaginary friend..

the girls i went to uni with were allowed, and even encouraged, to go there..

when I'm sick, i can get help, even if i can't pay..

i don't have to worry about a mass shooting by someone who is unhinged..

overall, it's pretty damn good..

and if the price I have to pay for all that is a higher bogan : person ratio, then I'm happy with that..

afterall, the bogan are a gentle people, once you get past the rum soaked exterior..

A footballer being charged with some pretty terrible alleged crimes always brings the worst out in the main board on here. Victim blaming, tryng to dig up AFL equivalence etc. That SKD thread has just gone to another level. I've missed some pages but it has suddenly gone to a debate on muslims vs. christians and where western democracy has come from.

And a lunatic or two.

I wonder if you or the others that prefer life overseas would feel a little different if you didn't have the option of coming back. Rhetorical question obviously as the option will never be taken away from you, but is Australia to you (and others) just a comfy old slipper in the back of the cupboard so to speak? Not that great when its only a short jump away, but things would change if were accidentally sent out with the garbage.

Hard to say. I often think if it weren't for my family living there and a few friends I'd hate not bring able to see, I'd have no inclination to come back.

That being said, it would be a very different story if I wanted to raise a family. I'm certainly not ungrateful of the privileges being Australian includes. I've definiteky benefited from Newstart, world class medical facilities, 'free' university etc.

They say every writer has a conflicted relationship with his home, so it's pethaos unsurprising that I feel both love & hate towards the country that shaped me.

Bah.

Mis is just annoyed that Aussie girls don't give it up as easy as some of the internationals.

That is the "root" of the problem.

My bet is that the list of Misanthrope's favourite countries corresponds very closely with the list of countries where Mis find's it easiest to get laid.

We all struggle with the concept of home, Mis. You're expressing a spiritual issue and manifesting the angst to Australia because there's no alternative.

My worldview suggests we were made for another place, which is what I'd argue you're feeling. Others would disagree but I'd encourage you to dwell on what I'm suggesting. :)

Mercury Hard Cider for $45 a case. If, tomorrow, I'm wondering where it all went wrong...this is it.

I reckon if the Knights weren't so shit you'd be back quicker...

 It certainly wouldn't hurt.

It's true that I don't have a lot of interest in or time for Aussie girls, but the theory falls apart there. I've never been to Germany (but I've been quite a few times) and while I like the US, it's probably my 4th or 5th favourite country.

Aussie girls do suck because they don't f**k (me), though

I think of the world as my home. That sounds super cheesy and granola fed, but I really do. A friend and I were arguing the other day because I felt the present people of people in Nepal was a more pressing use of aid money than, say, making reparations to our indigenous people. It's not because I prefer one group over the other, it's just that I felt that the living people of Nepal are suffering more than the living people of Australia.

She couldn't fathom how I could be so uncaring about my own country, but I guess a big part of it is that I don't feel like my entire personality should be dictated by where I came squealing into the world.

I love Australia and am very glad I am Australian, but why must that define me? Why can't I just be a person?

(Not that other people have said I can't be, just that this person seemed very outraged that I'd put other people's needs ahead of an Australian problem)

anyone got a contact at the department of immigration who could cancel Misanthrope's passport?

could be rather amusing..

Just give me time to collect a few of my favourite things first. After that, you're welcome to the place. Another Abbott term and the things I like most about it won't exist anymore anyway
