Well, it's the same job technically....just down to part time at a different site. Had to take less hours when the old joint shut a week ago. I wasn't going to leave and waste my long service leave which is available in June, plus I figured I'll just up my study and get out when the degree is done.

Not bad, got a Tues-Thurs roster

Is there room for overtime in your new position? I'm guessing you held a management job previously and on a salary... I was in the same boat when I was in retail. Money was decent but was expected to regularly punch out 55-60+ hours a week on a 40 hour contract, no overtime...

Retail really opens your eyes to the amount of absolute gronks there are out there...

It's worked out fairly well then. Good for you getting the lsl.

Yeah I was managing. Wine stuff, so not as gronky as other retail jobs in some ways and worse in others.

There would be room for overtime, but less so given they've had to squeeze all the staff from the other place into the remaining ones. Everyone is over staffed at the moment

Yeah I was pretty happy tbh. I've only hung around for the fking LSL anyway, and because it's cushy as. I can pay the mortgage on 14 hours and the missus earns rather a lot more than me so it made sense to kind of get on the way to getting out now. Plus the while thing has a distinctly "sinking ship" feel about it.

Careful Baz; LSL applies to full time. If they've dropped you to part time, it may require a little longer than June.

Just a possibility. Check it out to make sure.

Nah ACT is seven years regardless (although not casuals obviously). I think they can just make it 1 week = 1 of your PT weeks but I'm not sure if this mob do or not...and honestly a week is a week when it's extra leave so that doesn't bother me that much given I have 6.5 weeks LSL and (on my new contracted hours) almost 8 weeks AL

If it's a fast sinking ship, Baz, hang out for that redundancy payout...

Hah, I already angled for that just to test the waters a bit. No dice. Even if the big box arm goes under they just move contracted staff to other brands. Or Liquorland.

Rumour is they're opening one two minutes walk from my house. I'll happily work my 22 hour weeks there!

The original two stores are likely gone tbh....mine, and I hear whispers Haberfield is going too.

Both 60% plus wine stores by sales volume. Both stopped making money two years ago when they took out 50% of the wine range. But nah, it's the markets fault, and the stores for not selling enough $10 upsell deals....

Especially NZ sav blanc!

Deadset, 6 months or so ago they brought in all these exclusive lines, including five NZ savs between $16 and $22. In their own educational materials they sent to stores they had a little bit on market performance. All five had "NZ sav blanc in this area of the market has declined by 30% in the last year"......but clearly, THOSE FIVE were the ones that would turn that trend around!

Here's a question that's almost certainly wildly misplaced.

What do you buy a five year old girl for her birthday? I'm effectively an uncle to her, and her mother intimidates me half to death.
