My olds took me to Peter Paul and Mary ("Puff the Magic Dragon") in the Capitol Theatre as a kid... 1982? Closely followed by a Simon and Garfunkel outdoor gig at Sydney Sports Ground in 1983 (roughly where the SFS is today). Neil Young in 1985 on a school night - first half acoustic, second half electric... we had to leave the Ent Cent at 1am and he and Crazy Horse were still playing.

As a teenager, first gig without parentals was Eurythmics at the Entertainment Centre around 1988?. The order of gigs getz a bit blurry after I turned 18...

Nice. That SCG gig with some footage on the Led Zep DVD?

It was actually the old Sydney Sports ground.

The stage was set, then each member entered the ground in a white limo, still remember it like it was yesterday.

Yeah, me and the good lady were at that Simon & Garfunkel concert. It was a magic event.

I saw them again in 2009 in Sydney then saw Eddie Vedder solo in Newcastle last year.

I wasn't sure what to expect (besides ukuleles) but his solo gig was absolutely awesome. It closed with Hard Sun which is probably the best finish I've ever seen (then again I've only been to about 5 gigs).

Hard Sun is in my top 10 songs of all time. Eddie Vedder goodness.
I missed him when he did his solo tour, dagnabbit. I was in Melbourne while he was in Sydney, and I was in Sydney when he was in Melbourne. Where we stayed in Melbourne was right next door to the place he was playing at the day after we left for home. Cruel!

One day (perhaps in about 100,000 years time) people will wake up to the fact that governments can't solve all the worlds problems, nor can they successfully dictate people's behaviour, unless they are of the total authoritarian bent, and even then it's bloody difficult to achieve, except in broad brush strokes. Further, they may come to realise that for any given problem, the least likely solution to work is one proposed by a government.

On the issue at hand, I grew up idolising Peter Brock, and I particularly loved his day-glo orange VK Commodore, which had Marlboro displayed prominently on the side, bonnet, and between the tail lights. Later on, I discovered Rugby League, which was prominently sponsored by Winfield (I don't know how many "Anyhow, have a Winfield 25s" ads I would have viewed by the time I was 10, mostly on the back of Big League and Rugby League Week magazines, but it would be a lot). Moral of the story: I've never smoked a cigarette, nor had the slightest inclination to do so. Other moral of the story: plain packaging is an expensive exercise in achieving nothing, which is something all governments love to do.
I worked in a servo for a couple of years and it was surprising just how much certain brands corresponded to certain types of people

Tradies would smoke Winfield, occasionally Peter Jackson
Suits would smoke Benson and Hedges
People of european origin (how PC is that) would smoke Dunhill
Asians and indie types would smoke Marlboro or very occasionally Peter Stuyvesent

Point is there is strong brand association with smokers as there is with drinkers, drivers and most other walks of life. And when the packaging is the last method of advertising available (and you'd see special promotions, special addition packaging etc eg Winfield Summer) you can understand why they would change it. Alot of it isnt about the current generation of smokers, it's about stopping the next generation and removing part of the element that makes them 'cool'

Red Bear what caused them to start smoking in the first place?

No of course not (contrary to popular belief I'm not stupid). Just because branding hasn't affected me or some of the people on here doesn't mean it has never affected anyone in the history of smoking.
BM I simply asked that because IMO as a fellow non-smoker I don't think we can judge if branding make people take up smoking. I do believe that people take it up due to peer preasure or influence from their close friends. The brand colours may influence brand loyalty.
