SUPPORTERS SPLIT ON CONTROL OF RUGBY LEAGUE COMMISSION
9 February 2010
A survey produced by the Rugby League Supporters and Volunteer Workers Association has shown fans are not 100% behind a club controlled independent commission with 34.7% of those surveyed preferring to nominate & vote for commission members themselves in an NRMA style association, while 33.3% are happy for the NRL Clubs to be in control.
The Survey the first produced by the Association was designed to reflect issues that are on the minds of supporters and to help give a stronger voice to what the Association believes is the largest stakeholder of the Sport.
On the issue of expansion 78.2% would like to see the Central Coast Bears join the NRL, while the Perth Reds 18.2% and Adelaide 18.6%, edged out the call for a Queensland team (Central QLD 13.4%, Sunshine Coast 12.7%).
But in the Surveys biggest result a massive 97.1% of those surveyed believed more money should be made available for junior development and country rugby league. In other results 92.7% believed there should be a uniform code of conduct written into NRL player contracts and 92% agreed that the CEOs of the NSWRL, QRL, ARL and NRL should be more accessible and answerable to supporters.
