I've been told by my coach to try and get a bit more muscle and meat during the off season (cricket... yes we need muscles); so I've been having to do a lot of Gym stuff and bar work, and I've been told to start drinking Sustagen. It tastes fine, but is there anyone here who has used it as a protein drink? I have to go from about 75kg to 95kg (and it can't be fat unfortunately :p)

If it's muscle bulk you want, get something with creatine in it.

Make sure you drink heaps of water though, otherwise it'll f*ck up your kidneys

Sustagen has been around for about 30 years, not saying it doesn't work, but your coach may be older then me

I think there are better drinks around now days that will help you do that Furry, RJ is a good man to ask on these matters. I suggest you PM him.

If you want to put on weight for your bowling, weights and swimming have worked well for me.

If you hit the weights, your appetite will increase naturally.

Drinking Sustagen on its own will do nothing for you without the other hard work.

Besides, Sustagen is full of carbohydrate. If you want to build muscle, you need protein

You'll have to work out quite hard, and stack on the heavy weights doing low reps rather than doing lighter weights with high reps.

Probably getting some protein powder will be better than Sustagen for gaining weight. You'll also have to be prepared to eat shitloads.

Get into creatine. Its a legal drug that basically shortens your recovery time, so you are able to work harder with less rest, speeding up your training. It has been linked to a series of kidney problems tho, guys like Jonah Lomu and joeli Vidiri have been thought to use creatine, and both have had serious kidney disease, but go and see your doctor and see what he says. I know a couple of guys who've use it, one whos gone from a halfback to a second rower!!!

Before taking on any weight increase program consult your doctor. 20kgs? Its not a particularly healthy increase and if your only young remember bones still have to grow as well. To much muscle work when you are younger can lead to problems later as the muscles have developed with the bones at a certain length - as the bones grow you'll leave yourself open for muscles strains and tears.
