The SW Warriors consolidated themselves at the top of the Premier Division table with a convincing 42-14 win over the North Beach Sea Eagles for their first home game of the year on a glorious Autumn afternoon in Bubury.
The Warriors came out of the blocks quickly to go to an early 10-0 lead, however handling errors twice gave North Beach good field position to
level the scores 10-10. The Warriors then hit back late in the half to go to the sheds 14-10 up.
Disappointed with their ball handling in the first half the Warriors came out firing in the second half & raced to a 32-10 lead with 20 minutes still remaining. Another unforced error once again in the Warriors half gave North Beach another good opportunity where they finally went over out wide. However the Warriors weren't finished & scored two more tries to seal a very good win in front of an appreciative crowd.
The Warriors captain Matty Goodson had an outstanding game at front row, making great yards on almost every touch. He is currently trialling for the WA State team which will be a great reward for the Warriors, in particular Matty himself should he make it considering he is not playing in the top grade.
Next week the Warriors are up against the Rockingham Sharks which is sure to be their biggest test of the season to date.
Early games were won both by North Beach. The Sea Eagles came from 22-6 down at half time to win in the dying moments 30-26 in the under 18's. A disappointing end for the young guys as they were very dominate in the first half. The ladies tag went down 22-8 with a couple of really good individual late tries to the Warriors.
Tomorrow will see six junior teams take to the field at home in virtually all grades. Another oustanding effort to get so many teams up & running in only the club's second season! Congrats to all those involved.
