McKeown would be disappointed with that.

Also apart from Athens every swimming meet at the Olympics for the past 3 decades has been underwhelming for Australia.
Pretty much.
Sydney,Atlanta and Athens have been our best for swimming and I'm wondering if it was on the back of the massive push to compete in our host olympics.

Still we seem to just crud it up in the final of the event, there's something wrong with that.

This Hosszu has the smell of that Irish swimmer about her, she also came from nowhere to win 3 gold in her late 20's.
Mate, before you start talking out of your ass again, get your facts straight. She won world titles back in 2009. Hardly nowhere you muppet.

Hardly a 3 year career like Michelle Smith.

We have been spending less and less since Sydney, you only have to look at the Poms who have spent squillion's to get themselves competitive again after years of doing nothing.

We seem to just have a shit mentality. Go back to the 2012 olympics, you've been training at the expense of the taxpayer for years specifically for 1 event so what do you do? You party and take stillnox the night before your events. You've got other athletes in australia who are sacrificing a lot more money/work wise for their chance at the Olympics and they are making the most of their moments

Again??? Sorry for having an opinion Mr i got offered a scholarship to Yanksville. Just throwing it out there, she seems to have grown a leg at these olympics.

And lets face it what do the world Champs really mean??? Look at the Aussies last years form hasn't held up at all. it's al about the Olympics mate.

But we are a tight knit team now........

It seems like every other country uses the world champs as a build up to the olympics. We use it as a crutch. 'Oh well we didn't medal in this event but swimmer x is a world champ and will get better from this'

I don't think you can compare 2012's team to this one, these guys seem humble and willing to race but it seems like they're almost intimidated in the final.
That seems to be what it looks like to me.

Let's see whether she backs it up in the World Champs. I have my questions that's for sure. You don't break WR's like that usually. She might be the real deal, I'm not sold yet.

You are entitled to an opinion, but to make ridiculous claims like that is just stupid. There are plenty of Australians who would have seemingly come from nowhere to those outside this country, set the world alight and disappeared just as quickly - think Jodie Henry.

At least the 2012 one they weren't shy when they failed...this "oh I left everything in the pool" is weird when they are seconds outside PB's!

Yeah I'd be throwing worlds, it's as if world's pretty much makes you the benchmark.
If you win world's then it isn't going to drive you nearly as much.

I'm guessing AusSwim wouldn't be pleased about throwing world's though.

Agreed.

Look at the cycling. The all conquering British team don't perform half as well at the World Champs. But when the Olympics come around they're unstoppable.

The Aussie team is actually the opposite. Out perform Team GB in the worlds but when the Olympics come around have to rely on Meares for a Gold.

This has been the case for Beijing, London and now looking like Rio.

But just like Australia with the swimming around Sydney, Britain are riding a wave from building towards London.

Anyway a bit off topic but the swimming is similarfor Australia. The World Champs are a false dawn for many of these swimmers it seems.

I don't think world's in any sport is on the level of the olympics.
Usain Bolt, Sally Pearson and Michael Phelps have performed crappy at the world's and gone on to
win gold in the olympics after.

Did she do that at 27 though??? She is not beating her PB's she is smashing them, and world records as well in multiple events. Just throwing it out there, drugs are rife in all sports i don't think it was an unfair assumption.

Isn't it the same as your statements about Bolt?

Maybe she's just Hungary for success.

That was f**king horrific. Deadset sounded like a 14yr olf girl who had managed to give security the slip at a One Direction concert.

I didn't think it was that bad, but she was way over confident addressing Irving and then bumping him for Bogut making it clear she did not know Irving is a way better player than Bogut.

She swam 58.7 in a heat at last years worlds. And she didn't even swim faster in the 200IM than last years worlds. I think she has moved to the US in the past few years to train, so maybe. So maybe a couple of PBs but its the Oympics mate.

I mentioned the same thing about Bolt and got shut down - granted i know nothing about athletics.
