My local "district" the Calder Cannons v Oakleigh Chargers

3rd on the ladder v 6th is quite a surprise. Oakleigh's first GF in fact.

I remember talking about a few players after last years GF. Dale Thomas was one and I think a young lad who went to Hawthorn (Kev?)

Here are the teams.

Calder Cannons

B McGough P. Smith Farmer
HB Polkinghorne Faulks Young
C Gazzo Williams O'Dwyer
HF Caruso Arrowsmith Long
F Allen Daniher Maric
R Duyndam McErlain Horne

Int Putt Laidler Downes Considine May Kite Grant Brennan

Oakleigh Chargers
B Pickett Croft De Bruin
HB Carey Sandilands Carafa
C Coyle Kelly Fermanis
HF Gray Ainger Otten
F Smith Goldstein Reid
R Crozier Batsanis MacKay

Int Melhem Sheldon McCarthy Rainey Murrie Ozdemir Burstin

Great win by Oakleigh, who were looking very shaky at halftime.

I didn't see a huge amount of players that overly impressed me, but young Maric would be one I'd want to get to Hawthorn when he's old enough. He kicked 11 goals in a game as a small forward during the year and always looked dangerous yesterday. He's just the sort of small, livewire pocket player we've been without for years. Alas, is only 16 and will not be in this draft.

Greg Williams son, Jake, showed he was a ball magnet and I would think that both carlton & Sydney would be in touch with him re: father/son.

Carlton is also eligible to get Ken Sheldon's boy, who did some nice things, so they may have a tough choice to make.

Outside of those guys, big Calder forward Allan will surely get picked up by someone and midfielder Mackay and Batsanis looked very likely types.

Clubs could also do worse than consider the Calder captain (whose nale eludes me) with their lower picks, as he has great pace and likes to run with the ball.
