Does it become null and void the moment a player attempts one of these superman tries in the corner? Seems to be the case so far, referees allowing it (and rightly so) but has it actually been officially addressed any by referees or any actual amendments to rules/interpretations etc?

An attacking player is allowed to be tackled in the air so a try like that doesn't need any amendments etc.

Yes but when a player is jumping to catch a bomb, the moment he catches it, is he not then the attacking player?

Attacking / Defending is determined by which team kicked the ball.

It's a fact that a player carrying the ball's elbow or shoulder to the head of a player trying to tackle him can't possibly cause grievous bodily damage. It's also a fact tackling a player in mid air can't possibly hurt a player attempting to score a try. Not sure what the fuss is about . . . pain knows the rules

In relation to mid-air tackles, it is covered by a note in Section 11 The Tackle and the Play-the-ball to the Laws of the Game -

1. (b) It is illegal to tackle an opposing player attempting to field a kick whilst the player is in mid-air. The catcher must have returned to the ground before being tackled. (See Section 15.). Applies only when a player on the non-kicking team catches the ball on the full.

The last sentence makes it crystal clear, it only applies when the catcher is on the non-kicking team.

The only problem with the current rule is the refs seem to award a penalty if an attacker is competing for the ball and collides with the defender in the air. The way some refs rule on it effectively means the defender can leap for the ball without contest.

Yeah you definitely came to the wrong place if that's what you want. This is a place where everyone's got an opinion and if someone thinks otherwise then their an idiot. The majority of people don't know the rules but will still argue it. If you say something that someone doesn't agree with prepare to be insulted. Oh and any team that loses, it's always because the refs screwed them and clearly had no intention of letting the other team lose (no team loses because the other team was better). I think that pretty much sums up this forum

As has been said. It doesn't apply if they're from the team who kicked the ball. Odd rule as it's a safety thing and the same risk applies both ways.
