It did not take long for new NRL board member Gorden Tallis to become a rugby league diplomat.
Always a player to speak out on issues and for that a media favourite, Tallis said little yesterday about his first meeting as an NRL board member.
Asked how the meeting progressed, the usually outspoken Tallis said tongue- firmly-in-cheek: "It was a good meeting. The sandwiches were very nice and the drinks were cold."
Katie Page, managing director of Harvey Norman and wife of millionaire businessman Gerry Harvey, also attended her initial meeting at board level.
"We didn't make any momentous decisions so the rugby league world is the same as it was yesterday," Tallis said yesterday.
"Seriously, it was a good chance to meet the other board members and I am looking forward to working with them."
Tallis arrived early for the two hour meeting yesterday, showing his usual enthusiasm.
"Gorden and Katie were impressed with a number of things going on and with those things planned for 2005," NRL chief executive David Gallop said last night.
"Their input is going to very valuable during the season."

I am expecting Gould's article on Sunday mentioning the bold comments from Tallis.
That Tallis is not taking the job seriously. :?
