Tariq charged

We should be known as the test case club.

Friz first suspended for touching ref.
McInnes first penalised for passing into player on ground.
JDB first to be stood down, even though he was charged prior to stand down rule.
Now Tariq under new rules to protect halves.

You could even go back quite a few years when Barrett was charged 3 days later after a 9 employee came across footage of him & dobbed him in.

And what about the club signing a waterboy as coach? That test has worked out well.

I hear what you're saying,
There are only 3 things that keep me watching the mismanaged shambles that is rugby league :
1 Stupid A-League is played in the summer
2 I am a St Kilda fan so watching Aussie Rules is futile
3 I LOVE ST GEORGE
Barry Beath - one of my all time favourite players. Never reached his full potential.
We need more supporters like you champ.

The whole NRL administration is beyond a joke, even more so now. They are destroying the game little by little.
I suppose next season we won’t be allowed to tackle a player just yell out, touched
Some of the old time players would find it laughable.
My wifes cousin would he happened to play for Manly and Australia.....one of the toughest to ever play the game

It's just a shame we don't play the Cowboys again this year. Am I the only one who would love to see him tear Morgan a new one?... and I know he wouldn't disappoint.

God, this season has turned me into a painfully bitter person!

What I find bemusing is if he happened to have accepted the charge and it was downgraded he could have played in Origin....so can someone enlighten me please and tell me how was it going to be downgraded if he hadnt of appealed against the grade 2 charge....im bloody confused
Think it is a bit like a criminal appeal. All grounds or severity. They are saying that if he appealed the severity he might have been cleared. He went the all grounds.
Terrible decision by the judiciary. Sivo leaves the ground 1.5 meters from Norman with his eyes closed and a swinging arm, fractures his eye socket and gets nothing. The Sivo tackle was much more reckless and first impact was obviously his head.

So the rule going forward for the rest of the year if a defender contact the head of the play maker they need to be charged and at lest get 1 week suspension.

Let's see them enforce that when one of the marque player falls into that situation. The NRL have set the benchmark lets see the strength of conviction when the pressure is on.

TARIQ SIMS OUT OF ORIGIN III

St George and New South Wales forward Tariq Sims has failed in his bid to beat a grade two dangerous contact charge on Cowboys skipper Michael Morgan.

As a result he has been ruled out of State of Origin III — where it is now likely Blues coach Brad Fittler will call up Knights star David Klemmer.

Sims unsuccessfully argued he had to play the man when it came to the alleged late hit on Morgan and that he could not have pulled out of the collision.

“He was running so fast into me I needed to make a play,” Sims said.

“He engaged me. The play was halted to see that Mick was all right; then the scrum was packed. There was no penalty.”

NRL Counsel McGrath argued that the issue was not that the contact was later but rather that it was to the head of Morgan.

“Lateness is an element, but not a particularly importantly one in this incident. What we are dealing with is direct contact with the playmaker’s head, which is high,” Mr McGrath said.

“There was forceful contact, forceful enough for player Morgan not only to be taken from the field but to take no further part in the game.”

St George Illawarra back-rower Tariq Sims will miss State of Origin III after being found guilty of a grade one dangerous contact charge at the NRL judiciary on Tuesday night.

Sims was initially charged with a grade two dangerous contact in the aftermath of the Dragons' 22-14 win over North Queensland for his second half tackle on Cowboys skipper Michael Morgan.

However despite the guilty verdict, Sims's counsel James McLeod successfully argued the tackle be downgraded to grade one.

As a result, Sims will not miss any games for the Dragons given his selection for New South Wales on Monday night. If the attempted downgrade was unsuccessful, Sims would have missed three games.

It took the judiciary panel consisting of Dallas Johnson, Bob Lindner and Mal Cochrane 55 minutes to determine Sims's guilt; albeit a short clarification from both counsel's regarding their arguments around the point of first contact was required in this time.

NRL counsel Peter McGrath convinced the panel that Sims "veered into carelessness" by making first contact to Morgan's head.

"It was direct contact to the head, it was high, and in circumstances where the player has passed the ball," McGrath said.

"Lateness is an element, but not a particularly importantly one in this incident. What we are dealing with is direct contact with the playmaker's head.

"There was forceful contact, forceful enough for player Morgan not only to be taken from the field but to take no further part in the game."

On the contrary, McLeod argued that the play wasn't careless and the player couldn't pull out of the simultaneous play.

Although it was accepted by Sims "there might have been" incidental contact to Morgan's head; McLeod had the panel consider such contact was made by Sims's collarbone and chest.

"It's not realistic to say it was late from a football sense if you watch it in full speed," McLeod said.

"You are better placed than the match review committee to make a decision, because you have heard the explanation of player Sims."

Sims was granted the opportunity to reflect on the tackle: "I felt his body contacting my chest and collarbone. As I was doing that I pivoted to see where the ball was going.

"I don't agree [I was careless]. I needed to play at the ball player. Because he ran so fast towards me I needed to engage him as a defender. I needed to play at him."

Sims will be available for selection in the Dragons' upcoming Round 17 game against the Canberra Raiders at WIN Stadium, Wollongong on Sunday, July 14.

You know it and I know it, it won't happen again. Depends who the offender and victim is, and how much their coach whinges.

If we were a professional and ballsy club, we'd have the video tape out this weekend to prove this happens every half of every game of footy without even a noise. We'd demand an explanation.

Did the judiciary get enough footage to see if Norman was hit in the head or not?? Did they deliberate over that for an hour?? Oh that's right his cheekbone was fractured. Nope, wasn't even cited.

Feel genuinely bad for Tariq. If that was me i'd be fuming, the fact that it cost him the decider aside.

Upside for us is that Dragons aren't effectively hurt. Could have been worse.
No offense but aren’t effectively hurt, I must be watching a different season. Lol

I knew he would be gone when Qld claiming a NSW conspiracy to get Tariq off this morning. Demanding that qld ex players be on the judiciary etc. Given TV ratings tanked particularly in Qld in Origin 2, it really suggests some backroom shenanigans ? Very sus.

Sure enough, in comes guilty verdict to a non guilty tackle. It’s NRL 2019.
