didnt u see Lauaki smoke Rush on the outside????

and i know they play different positions in that game but Lauaki played almost all of his S12 rugby at 8 for the Chiefs
As much as I dislike Rush, It was Gibbs who should have stoped Lauaki not Rush. Blindside Flanker should have been there.

Wrong, Evans has been earmarked as taking over from Brown in Otago and the Highlanders.,

Not likely. The Chiefs made the Super 12 Semis with both their 5/8's in top form. Auckland didn't.

Wrong again. He spent a year in the Hurricanes and couldn't displace Howell.

While I like Aii as a player, There is no chance in Hell he will make the All Blacks at First Five Eight. Hence the reason Pat Lam has told him his best chance is at Halfback.

Chiefs have S Donald, Glen Jackson and David Hill. I don't think the Chiefs would like a player who can't kick at first-five at all.

I am seriously doubting whether you know what the term, "liability", means. Ai'i is not a reliable player, he often goes for impossible chip kicks, and ends up turning over the ball. Calling people names totally destroys an argument, I guess it's just a measure of your age as well.

Hurricanes have Holwell, Flutey, Weepu and Jimmy Gopreth and are looking to sign Aaron Mauger.

Jeez, Murphydog1234, only because you can't read newspapers or anything about rugby, look up some recent articles on the Herald website, and you will read what Henry said about his selections.

Face it, Orene Ai'i's future as a first-five in NZ rugby is limited, and his future at fullback also is extremely bleak with Muliaina, Evans, Atiga, Ward, Horton, Williams etc coming up the ranks.

Ai'i in League? Not sure. But would be interesting if he switches.

Scott Donald is and U21 player

With all due respect to the Chiefs, they didnt get to the semis because of their 5/8, they got their because they had some good offseason purchases to solidify an already good foward pack(Lauaki, Manu) and they also had finishing ability this year(Sivivatu, Fa'atau)

If the Chiefs actually had a world class 5/8 such as Spencer or Merhtens they could have won the Super 12, they had the team just not a world class pivot. Also their centres were a little dodgy with injuries etc

I wonder why they are looking to sign Mauger???? because there current depth at 5/8 is poor. Weepu is more of a halfback than a 5/8

Your pointing out ONE chip kick that Ai'i did against the stormers??

Its like saying Carlos is prone to throwing intercept passes

No, not one chip kick, more than a few EVERY GAME in last year's NPC and this year in the Super 12.

Donald is an U21 player, same as Luke McAlister, and many are already touting both as future All Blacks. Hmmmm....anyone hear anyone say this about Ai'i lately? ;-)

The Chiefs don't have a world-class pivot, and you think that Ai'i is one? And that if he played for the Chiefs, they would have won the Super12?

You seem to be blaming everything on Glen Jackson, when in fact he had a more than a good game in the semi-final. How old are you by the way? Because you are acting like a 5 year-old with you "school-bully" names etc.

They are looking to sign Mauger because Holwell is leaving next year, and actually, Weepu plays most of his club rugby at first-five and he prefers that position while Riki Flutey prefers halfback.

Sione Lauaki was a draft player, so they didn't know they were going to get him when they signed Kelleher and Tom Willis.

Well in the S12 Weepu played a lot more of halfback than 5/8

Ai'i would give them a better shot at winning the s12 with the Chiefs than Glen Jackson. Thats not saying that Ai'i is a good player but i think he has more talent than Glen Jackson.

It doesnt matter how they got Lauaki, the fact is they got him and in getting him got a loose foward who could constantly break the advantage line and get go foward ball where they could release their finishers.

So what if he had a good game, he needed a great game.

All S12 champion teams have had a world class pivot

Larkam
Spencer
Merhtens

I am NOT saying that Ai'i is in the league of those 3, but he does create more for his outsides than Jackson.

Similarly with Holwell, although he is a decent player, he does not possess top level vision to use his great outside backs.

Ai'i does not use his outside backs, he runs sideways, backwards, and then tries to kick the ball and ends up kicking 20m down the fullback's throat.

Weepu played halfback in the S12, who didn't know? Thanks for pointing out the blatantly obvious. Really, thanks.

Ai'i has more talent? Talent is not always the key. People have said Ai'i had talent since 1999, and look 5 years down memory lane, and he can't even make the first-choice NPC team this year. You know why? Because he is a jack of all trades master of none.

Releasing your outside backs is not all that matters, you need a good kicking game, good decision making, and unfortunately, Ai'i does not have them.

Lauaki broke the advantage line, yes, but he always made a number of unforced errors and was untidy at the scrum, and that's what cost him an All Black trial starting place.

you need help

i mention that one of the reasons that the Chiefs made the semis was a good pack. I also said that one reason the pack was better than the previous year was because they were able to get consistent go foward, somewhat attributed to Lauaki's ability to break the advantageline constantly

then you proceed to tell me why he didnt make the All Blacks

Thats not what i was talking about

Give yourself a triple

This arguement has ended
