Rabbitohs forfeited to the Hobart Tigers.

Because of my involvement with the Tigers I will make no comment of the decision by the Rabbitohs not to play despite support from other Clubs.

I wil provide full details of next round with ladder next Sunday.

Tigers through to Grand Final

The Hobart Tigers finally confirmed their status as Grand Final favourites of the Tasmanian Rugby League with a comprehensive 54-30 demolition of the Southern Rabbitohs in the major Semi-Final at Rugby Park on Saturday.

Sunnia Maafu and Lincoln Blake Bowman were unstoppable as the Tigers broke the back of the Rabbitohs defence in an impeccable second half performance which saw the Tigers machine roll in 6 second half tries after the scores were locked 20-18 at the break.

Maafu was unstoppable scoring 4 tries and making several massive hits on the Rabbitohs attack.

The Rabbitohs were best served by Willy Campbell and Josh Papera.

In the elimination final the Eastern Thunder fought off a brave Northern Cowboys outfit winning 34-26 in a bruising encounter.

Corey Morris ran in three tries in a man of the match performance for the Thunder while Cowboys utility Graeme Werthemier left State Coach, Mick Hunt, in no doubt about his claims for representative duties with an impressive game for a Cowboys outfit that simply was outgunned by the well drilled Thunder machine.

Sam in a league of her own

Samantha Sharp refereeing rugby league match. in Hobart match with Cowboys vs Thunder

WHO'S 17 years old, stands 169cm and calls the shots over 26 hot-headed men every Saturday afternoon?
The answer is Hobart rugby league referee Samantha Sharp, who's been stamping her authority on the Tasmanian Rugby League competition since arriving from the Sunshine Coast a month ago.
In just three games, the teenage whistle-blower has made it very clear who's the boss, sin binning five players - three for fighting and two for telling her she's a s... referee.
Sharp, who has been refereeing since she was 12, has the goal of becoming the first woman to referee in the NRL.
She is doing everything she can to give herself the chance, including going through a rigorous training schedule.
Samantha described herself as a rugby league fanatic and said she got hooked on the game from the day her father, also a referee, took her along to games as a young girl.
Since then she's played the game at high school as well as refereeing from under-8 to under-18 level but the highlight so far has been her promotion to senior football in Hobart.
"It's just been amazing to have been given this opportunity. Down here all they want to do is play the game, but up in Queensland all they want to do is fight," she said.
And clearly Samantha has already made a big impression with the game's administrators with her appointment as the grand final referee on February 26.
Tasmanian Rugby League president Justin Kearney said Samantha had been a breath of fresh air and a major boost to the game in Tasmania.
"For a person of her age she referees with a lot of authority and has handled a couple of fights very well," he said.
"She is the best referee we have and the players tell me she is greatly respected."

RABBITOHS INTO GRAND FINAL

Campbell was unstoppable in defence and attack and was ably supported by half back Rogers who ran in a 90 metre intercept try just before half time which broke the back of a Thunder unit which tried hard but simply was outplayed when it mattered.

The Thunder were best served by Corey Morris who scored 2 tries from half back and Shane Weirman who showed all his experience from lock and Launceston recruit Laurence Lamont at five eighth.

The Rabbitohs now play the Hobart Tigers in the Grand Final at the University Rugby Oval at 2pm this Saturday, 26 February 2010.

The game will be preceded by junior clinics held by members of the NRL Club, the Melbourne Storm, at 12.30.
