The NRL legit released a statement, that has gone through PR and Legal departments, essentially saying we didn't want to suspend him now after being found guilty for assault because it happened a while ago and suspending him now would have a negative effect on Penrith's season.

Good to see they're as amateur as they've ever been.

Seriously - give him a one week suspension now for a non-elimination final and no-one cares. Fine him with no suspension because he wasn't convicted and no-one cares. But a delayed suspension, and saying they delayed it because they didn't want to hurt a clubs chances? Just about the stupidest possible outcome.

Weird one all round. Given that they knew what happened months ago, why not announce this the day it comes out? Why wait a week and the announce it in the week before the finals?

My view; if they want to stand him down for two weeks, should have announced it last week and it would have been last weeks game and this weeks. I imagine that is what they would have done if it hadn’t already been announced he was rested last week when the charge came out.
